Changing the blade was a very simple process. If you don't have a retainer nut wrench and don't want to buy one it is possible to use a pair of pliers to remove the retainer nut (the large metal ring on the bottom of the container).

Here's how:

You will notice that the retainer nut has two raised portions with a gap between them.

1. Get a pair of medium sized pliers.

2. Open them all the way.

3. The jaws should sit nicely in the retainer nut gaps.

4. Grasp the handles and turn counter clockwise while aligning the jaws in the gap.

5. This should loosen the retainer nut. ( Mine was not very tight at all)

The directions that come with the replacement blade are very good. Basically once you have removed the retainer nut you will grasp the blade from the inside of the container with a cloth and pull it out. Clean anything dirty then reassemble in reverse. Drop in new assembly, lightly oil threads and secure retainer nut.

During the assembly and reassembly process it is necessary to secure the container. I found it easy enough to put it on the ground and lock the container with my knees. I felt it was all pretty easy but this assumes a basic amount of coordination and being comfortable with hand tools. Good luck.

Why wouldn't it be? Of course it is a VitaMix product. I own a VitaMix 5000 which I bought several years. We needed the Wet Blade Assembly because the old one wore out. This new blade makes the VitaMix so QUIET. It is used everyday and is a true workhorse.

works as well as the original. I tried replacing the bearings and seals in my old blade assembly, which requires a press (you can use a vise) and collets (I used sockets) but the new seals didn't last and then the bearings got corroded and it was a mess. Plus, sourcing the bearings and seals took a while. If you go that route yourself, DO NOT pound anything apart, USE A PRESS or you will peen the heck out of the components and nothing will want to go back together. Don't ask me how I know, I'm still traumatised about it.

Bought a used Vitamix 5200 last year and was pretty disappointed that the blade stopped spinning so soon but, as usual, Amazon came through with a solution in this product. I was a little concerned because the picture for this product didn't show the STM-102P engraved on one of the blades like my nonworking assembly had a competitor product on Amazon clearly shows that stamp. Since this one was a little cheaper due to free shipping with Prime membership I took a chance. The assembly that arrived did have the STM-102P stamp, was very easy to install (you don't need the special Vitamix wrench) and it works perfectly. We're back in the soup and smoothie business to the family's delight..

nice blade assembly, just what i needed, works flawlessly, I would recommend just buying this instead of taking it all apart and finding two small ball bearing to replace on the shaft and etc

I've had my Vitamix for ten years, and it had been leaking a little bit through the blade, so I decided to buy a new one. It got here with no trouble, installed easily, and works great!

Worked like a charm as was easy to install with the wrench. I thought we would never get the old one off after it being on there since the 90's, but it came of so easily!

Blade is original quality, the same as the original blade we had.

Easy installation with optional tool (or you can make your own out of wood).
