3.0 out of 5 stars plus: Excellent size and bristles | minus: Handle slides off, December 18, 2011
This review is from: Vitamix 15639 container brush.
My first impression was "this brush is both wider and taller than expected"! That is a worthy compliment. The girth and the height of the bristle structure is both tall and wide - obviously chosen or designed to match the interior of your Vitamix container. When I inserted the brush into my Vitamix container I was very pleased to see how each bristle made immediate contact with the entire interior surface, this is a tribute to its wide girth. During my first two uses, all I had to do was grip the handle and lightly move the brush up and down, then twirl the brush just a little bit to easily complete the cleaning.

A problem surfaced on the third use. The white colored broom-stick-shaped handle is made out of a plastic that appears to be sturdy and durable, but there is a thin walled, black colored glove made out of vinyl like material that was fitted over the end of the handle. After I filled the container with some warm soapy water and inserted the brush the bristles took up some of the water and became heavier (this is an attribute). However, because of the weighted bristles, from this point on, whenever I twirled or pumped the wet brush inside the container, the black glove no longer gripped the handle without sliding around or off the handle. It slid around much like an annoyingly loose hand grip will do on a kid's bicycle handle bar. The black glove also tended to rise up to the point where it almost slid off the handle altogether while I was pumping the brush up and down in the container.

This fault developed after my third use of the brush and it is annoying me to the point where I want to slide off the glove altogether and just throw it away. But if I trash the handle I will have to be contending with gripping a slippery, rounded, smooth surfaced, plastic handle. I wish the manufacturer would have constructed the handle with corrugations instead of a sleeved glove, a corrugated handle would be a permanent improvement.

Am going to try a workaround by sliding off the glove and applying a few drops of crazy glue to the plastic handle - after I slide the glove back on it hopefully will have sufficient traction.

As far as it's intended job of cleaning, it cleaned the interior walls of my Vitamix container quite well and I am very pleased with it. I was hesitant to purposely "brush" the blades for fear of severing any of the bristles, as those bristles are really nice. Others may venture to do so but I was hesitant for reason stated. Regardless, during the process of cleaning the interior walls of the container the brush made mild contact with the top surface of the blades without incurring any damage to the bristles.

After using the brush I rinsed it with water and shook it a bit. I am drying and storing the brush in an upright position with the handle pointed down in an unused flower vase, as I don't want to risk misshaping these nice flexible bristles by laying the brush on its side.

Summary:
+ The bristles are quite nice, full bodied, flexible not rigid, and hold water when wet.
+ The bristles are non abrasive.
+ The girth and height of the brush is excellent, no interior surface of the container will be missed.
+ Cleaning my Vitamix with the brush consumed considerably less time and effort, and did a more thorough job than cleaning with a dish cloth during my first two uses.

+ - With moderate pressure I can also clean the top of the blades; not known if firmly brushing the sharp edged blades will damage the bristles.

- Thin walled, vinyl like glove. Has the potential to stiffen and crack over time.
- During the third use the black glove lost traction and slid around the handle. Had to remove the glove and deal with the slippery round plastic handle.

Addendum:
Would like to return to this review and rate it 4 out of 5 if my crazy glue work around holds up.
