This thing is AWESOME. I'm so glad we took the plunge! This blender is the BEST one I have EVER used. Blends ice perfectly, leaving no chunks, easy clean up, makes soup. I'm pretty sure it would chop up rocks if you tried. My husband and I have been using this to make shakes in the mornings. I put strawberries, other frozen fruits, halves of apples (with the core and seeds still in tact), ice...everything comes out perfectly for a smoothie. The seeds from the strawberries don't even make it through the blend.

I can pull out my fruits, blend a smoothie, and clean up in less than 2 minutes.

Don't deceive yourself into thinking, though, that you will never use the damper. If you make thick shakes, you will use the damper every time....

For those that don't know, you can make your own soups (add your veggies and broth) and run the blender for a full minute or two. It will heat your ingredients right up.

Clean up is as simple as adding a few drops of liquid dish soap, a little warm water, run blender for about 20 seconds, and rinse out!

After countless hours over the course of several days (literally), I have finally solved the big question for myself: Blendtec or Vitamix? Before I began I was equally on the fence about them both, recognizing the overstated pros/cons and general differences of each. I made up my mind and got the Blendtec....and returned it the next day for the Vitamix. I didn't really give Blendtec a fair chance per say, but all else considered there were a few deciding factors. 1. Based on my research and other reviews, Vitamix simply blends better and smoother. After all, that's the most important function of a blender to me, and for these prices, the one I choose sure as heck better blend til it's smooth as milk (which is how I would describe my first Vitamix green smoothie!) 2. Versatility. At first I didn't like the fact of using a tamper. However, in further thinking, the fact that Vitamix has the tamper makes it so much more efficient and versatile at other tasks such as chunky dips (guacamole comes to mind). It's true, many times you don't need the tamper, but it's a tool to use. When the Blendtec needs a little help, you're stuck using a spatula or whatever else and digging around in there without a safety mechanism like you have with Vitamix's tamper. Another advantage is being able to run the machine at a much slower RPM so you can get some chunks in dips, etc if you so choose, rather than immediately pulverizing everything. Not to mention, on the other end of the spectrum, the Vitamix runs at 9,000 RPM faster than Blendtec's highest setting to get it so perfectly smooth. 3. Noise. No doubt Blendtec is noticeably louder. Period. 4. Overall feel of quality.Read more ›

Yesterday, I received the Vita Mix 1723 Professional Series 200 blender. First impressions out of the box. The lid and perhaps the carafe handle impart a strong plastic smell that permeates the whole box. The carafe is BPA free not sure about the lid. The carafe looks beautiful. It is made out of a clear yet strong and light weight polycarbonate material. The base its a bit bulky but expected as it houses a 2HP motor. However it is not heavy for its size. Also included are a tamper tool, a recipe book, and a DVD.

I washed the carafe and the lid with warm soapy water and noticed that the smell of plastic still lingers from the lid. I am thinking it will be sometime before it goes away.

The overall height of the blender is about about 20 inches. I had no problem placing it on the edge of the counter. Thus it does not fit directly underneath the kitchen cabinets. The carafe has plenty of room to blend different types of fruits and vegetables at once, which is a huge plus.

The first thing I made was an orange sorbet. This recipe puts the blender to the test. It calls out for two peeled oranges, two teaspoons of sugar, and four cups of ice. The blender had no trouble creating a deliciously smooth orange sorbet in about a minute. It will get loud while it grids so much dry ice without so much liquid for lubrication. Your neighbors might wonder was going on. However, this is the loudest it will get. I noticed that while blending other recipes, the noise is comparable to any other blender running on high.

The recipe book is excellent. It has all sorts of easy recipes to follow with nice color pictures. The book has a hardcover binding, and the paper the recipes are printed on is smooth and glossy. The DVD shows about 16 live recipes with chef Michael Symon.

I am middle-aged and MUST MUST MUST get more veggies in my diet. I dislike many vegetables and am ambivalent to the rest. The Vitamix and a couple of good green smoothie books like Green Smoothie Revolution: The Radical Leap Towards Natural Health have fixed the problem COMPLETELY! I am eating lots of raw greens and enjoying them so much I look forward to the next time I get to have one! So is my hubby. I have been using the blender on my Bosch Universal Mixer for years. I thought it was powerful. Boy, was I wrong. It's like the difference between a moped and a Harley.

I thought about the Blend-Tec. My kids showed me all the funny videos, but honestly, I do not need to blend my iPad. I wanted a blender from a company that has been making the same product for a long time (85 years!) I also wanted the 7 year unconditional guarantee. I have known about the Vitamix all my life. Additionally, I have a K-tec grain mill and it is so loud I have to wear ear protection. I did not want to take that chance with the Blend-Tec. I know a lot of people swear by them but I went with the older, more established company.

I am 100 percent satisfied with this wonderful powerhouse blender. I use it 2-3 times per day. No, it does not fit under my kitchen cabinets when assembled but that was not an issue for me. I store the motor and the jar side-by-side. It is easy to clean, easy to use, does not make too much noise and does exactly what it is supposed to do in a very short time. I like the tamper/accelerator. It is not a hassle to use and makes sense - when you're blending something thick, chunks sometimes float on top.
