I did a ton of research before buying this machine. We had originally wanted a high end juicer, but everything I had read convinced me that the Vitamix was the way to go. The package that I got included the dry mix container. I love the fact that I can grind my own flour! We use it daily. I've made soup, smoothies and tons more stuff. It's so worth the money! The warranty is great as well.

This same exact blender is only $499 at Costco - same warranty, identical instruments - save almost $200 and it's like getting a month of fruits and veggies FREE

"I love driving it. It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly suggest picking one up."

I did not believe that a blender could be worth this much money, or that it could make non-dairy cream sauce this creamy, or that it wouldn't sound like the deck of an aircraft carrier. And yet, it is. To say the least (the very least). I look forward to a long and loving relationship with this appliance.

Now then, anyone want to buy a juicer, a stick blender, a regular blender, a mini-chopper, etc.? I won't be needing them anymore.

I have a Vitamix that I bought in 1990 and thought that that was the greatest, but this Vitamix 5200 is a CADILLAC. I'm using this one even more than the other one - soups, ice cream/sorbet, smoothies galore. I used to use the old Vitamix 4000 to make bread dough and will have to try it with the new one. I would give up every kitchen item but not my Vitamixer. What an investment and customer service is great [and the warranty as well]. And I am getting healthier as well.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this blender!! I don't think it should be called a blender...it's more of a kitchenary phenomenal genius! Okay, probably none of that made sense, but needless to say, I am very happy. I've only had this for a week and have used it 3-5 time a day. I've made the chocolate and vanilla ice cream per the recipes in the included book (vanilla ice cream wasn't all that great tasting due to the instant dry milk that's an optional addition)... the chocolate was fantastic! I've made tomato soup - it blended it up in 5 minutes from room temp to 140 degrees! (I broke out the thermometer to test the temp). Chopping is taking some getting used to because this machine is so powerful, I end up with some super fine puree quicker than I plan. But that is user error, not machine error. The more I use this the more I get used to how it blends and have found my blending times lessened and my items turning out more to my liking. I've also made strawberry/pineapple "ice cream" by blending milk, whole frozen pieces of fresh pineapple (I buy fresh pineapple, peel, chop into disks and freeze-don't even remove the core), frozen strawberries and it blends to perfection in under 40 seconds. Yes, it is loud, but doesn't seem any louder to me than a normal blender. I will do follow up posts as only time will tell. But from all reviews I've read and my personal experiences so far, this is one investment that will more than pay for itself over time. LOVE IT!

The blender is fantastic. just be aware that when it says you can make hot soups, that's not really hot soup as you know it. The blender HEATS the ingredients but it does not cook them--fine if you're into raw foods, not so fine if you want the rich, mellowed flavor of a great soup. any onion or garlic you add is going to come out tasting very sharp and raw. So I use this to blend a hot soup I cooked the traditional way, in which case I probably could have gotten a less expensive model. Still, i'm happy. this is an easy-to-clean workhorse of a blender. Smoothies and shakes can be made as thick as at a malt shop, and the sorbets come out wonderful.

It is puzzling to me that this exact same package is $150 less at Costco, and that adds up to a bigger difference when you consider the sales tax. Shipping is free there, too, and the warranty is the same. (and you can physically return it to Costco for a new one if something goes wrong.) Even if you're not a Costco member, you could buy a year of membership and still save $100. That's quite a big difference. Amazon should be able to do better on the price.
