4.0 out of 5 stars More of the same from SimBin, which is not really a bad thing
First of all this is really just another standalone expansion pack for Race 07. The new cars and tracks feature some enhancements and graphical tweaks and look decent, but the engine is showing its age. They did a good job spicing it up a bit, though. The driving is more of the same from SimBin's Race titles which focuses on finesse and realism. If you have played GTR 2,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Bleh, it's pretty average.
The GTR-E addon package adds the Camaro, Charger and Challenger. It also adds the 08 version of the BTCC. It's pretty nice, and adds a couple tracks too. Meh, you've got to have it if you're going to play GTR-E so you might as well for the price.

It's missing the newer Mustang though to compete with these cars.

However, if you haven't bought...

If you have played GTR 2, Race 07 etc. then you know what to expect here: unforgiving driving mechanics, although Race On seems to be slightly more forgiving than past releases. The US muscle and street cars add some flavor, they sound great and are fun to drive. Mild powersliding is actually somewhat of an option with them and drifting seems a bit easier than past Race titles, but the game still manages to be a very challenging racing simulation, rewards precise driving, and is probably best enjoyed with a good racing wheel. Of course the game contains many, many cars including Formula and a ton of tracks to race on like all the Race titles.

This package contains:
Race 07: The Official WTCC Game
STCC The Game (xpac)
Race On (xpac)

It DOES NOT contain GTR Evolution, so if you want to drive any of the cars from Evo, race on Nürburgring or play the "R-cade Extreme" gameplay mode, obviously you will need to buy that expansion (it's available on Steam as well as Race On).

You will need to install the Steam version from the disc if you want to play multiplayer, but if you aren't interested in online play or don't like Steam, there is an offline install option. Overall I would recommend this package. It is a nice addition to a solid, tried and true racing formula. However, don't expect anything revolutionary and if you already own Race 07 and STCC just be aware of what you are paying for.

4.0 out of 5 stars New cars and tracks are fun, but is it time for SimBim to make a brand new game?, October 15, 2009

As you might have guessed from the product description, this is a standalone expansion pack to the Race 07 game. Exactly as advertised, it adds more cars and tracks and other than that, I did not notice any real change in graphics, controls or anything else from GTR Evolution (previous expansion).

It's definitely fun to be able to race the new cars on the new tracks, but I personally feel like it's time for SimBim to make another game already. Milking the Race 07 series will only get them so far, meanwhile the market for a brand new hardcore racer sim is wide open and sim fans are really tired of waiting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth the $7 price, December 20, 2011

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Race On (DVD-ROM)
I've run track days in my 4th generation Camaro and I think the Race On program feels as real as a computer can make it. I wish the breaking signs at Road America were a little larger because they are easier to see in real life. I have played the game for 2 weeks now but never run any track other then Road America so I can't comment on the other tracks. I bought it specifically because it has a track and a car that I know very well and it's runs on PC.

The only con I have seen so far is I am disappointed in the 4th gen Camaros in the game. If mine drove like a marshmallow the way the game does I would never take it out on the track. I've messed with the car set up plenty but just can't dial it in. The 09 camaros in the game are much closer to the way real world Camaros behave on the track. But my favorite car is the Chevrolet Lacetti. The Lacetti has just a bit more grip then my real Camaro so I back the rear bar off and over fill the fuel tank and I feel right at home in it. The F1 and 09 track Camaro are fun too but so much faster then my real car I don't play them much.

The bottom line is the game was only $7.00 I would have been satisfied at 5 times the price so I highly recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great racing muscle cars, October 15, 2010

As I'm actually a fan of SIMBIN products (GTR, GTL, GTR2), I very like this one. This bundle let you drives many kind of street/stock/muscle cars as well as open wheel race cars on many tracks. Graphics are great, handling can be set with help or without which let you having great chalenge. I would give a five stars if piting would provide animation and if lists of championships would be included.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Expansion, September 27, 2010

I love this line of games from Simbin. They are always affordably priced and of high quality. I've got them all linked to my steam account and they run great. Although Ill warn you not to use Vsync when playing on Win7. Vsync would cause the cars not to show up in the car selection menus. Never had that problem on XP though.

One last warning...THIS IS NOT, ir repeat NOT NOT NOT NOT for need for speed fans. This is a simulation, not a crap arcade game.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best SIM from Simbin, December 27, 2009
This review is from: Race On (DVD-ROM)
Having owned Race07, GTR Evo, I didn't think I need to spend the money on this, after searching and reading about it, plus the price is cheap, I decided to buy

WOW, I am not sure why someone says that the Laguna Seca and Road America are bad, they are the best I have ever seen.. and I have PS3, Gran Turismo, Rfactor, etc, I also have played those track in Iracing.. Simbin just knows how to create tracks, amazing work..

Besides having a little of Race07, GTRe, Race on is more polished in every way, the track, cars, how to cars drive, awesome work... for 22$ you cant beat this sim... Provides hours of fun..

However, if you haven't bought the previous versions, this one comes with Race07 and STCC also.

IMHO, it's good if you're already into racing games, and have a wheel. If not, this is a great value but you will want to get a wheel and pedal assy in order to have fun.

Cheers~!

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor job on US tracks, December 7, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Race On (DVD-ROM)
I purchased Race On for the two US tracks: Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and Road America. I was excited to hear Simbin was including these tracks in Race On as I have driven both tracks in real life.

After driving them in the game, I must say that I'm very disappointed with the poor quality of the implementation. There are significant errors in the rendering of both tracks. Furthermore, there are free downloads of these tracks for GTR Evolution and Race 07 from enthusiast sites that are superior. I even went so far as to review the in-car video footage from my most recent lapping days to confirm that my perceptions were correct.

The addition of a new formula car is welcome, but is probably not worth the cost of the upgrade considering the other problems.
