I bought Fritz 7 to anaylze some of my games, and for the free year of Playchess.com Internet chess. I went with this version over 8 because its thirty dollars cheaper. And I didnt think I needed a better engine when this one can smoke me. Fritz 7 will lay a serious beating on you and talk trash the whole time. It heaps verbal abuse on you as it dominates you on the board. It has a friend mode, a sparring mode, and a rated game(unleashed) mode. It also comes with the above mentioned free year of Chess on the Internet, which I have already played some games on there and it is very good. But with Fritz 7 you cant watch the video teaching portions on the playchess website, you need version 8 for that. So if your wondering which version to get keep that in mind. I didnt know that when I bought 7. But it wouldnt have changed my mind.

I deducted a star because its hard to understand how to do things in Fritz. Its complicated and not as user friendly as Chessmaster. I also like the Chessmaster training academy a lot more than Fritz's training course. But Fritz is a stronger engine, even though they can both beat me pretty easily, so it dosent really matter. Fritz 7 also comes with a huge database of 350,000 games. And can analyze your games which is very helpful.

This is worth the money and Im glad I got it. You really need both this and Chessmaster. Fritz is way better at analysis and has the Internet play, which Chessmaster has a terrible Internet setup. But Chessmaster has better training tools, Fritz has a way bigger database. Fritz 7 needs to come with a better manual, as complicated as the program is, it comes with a very small inadequate manual. But all told this a strong Grandmaster on your computer who can beat you and teach you at the same time.

Miss all the professional commentaries. Fritz 10 no longer has this feature. Miss the cd drive only feature. Fritz 10 no longer has this. Need quality play like Fritz 10. Then this is your computer software.

Excellent fritz quality software. Too bad its hard to find.

The Fritz 9 engine in around 100 elo points stronger and the advanced 3D graphics, not to mention a 1,000,000 game database versus only a 500,000 database for Fritz 7. On the other hand, if you can find a very low-priced Fritz 7 used at a price under $10, it would be a great economy price with many of the same features, interface, and, of course, near World Champion strength.

This program is great for the money. But I think you'd be better off purchasing the latest edition at a slightly higher price. Hope this helps!
