Well, as a fan of the Zoo Tycoon games, I haven't been able to find anything as good as they are. I thought, though, that this one seemed the most promising. I thought it was great that it said you could put in African, Endangered, Marine, or Extinct animals in your zoo. I thought, "Cool, no expansion packs to worry about." But this statement is misleading. Yes it has African animals, but only the common ones like gazelles, zebras, elephants, lions, etc. It has some endangered animals, but doesn't have anything that makes that fact stand out. Also, they only have about 3 marine species, and they're the common ones, too: Polar Bear, penguin, and sea lion. As for the extinct creatures, there's no dinos, which I love to put dinos in my zoo when I play Zoo Tycoon, but they do have the Mammoth, Saber-toothed Cat, and Wooly Rhino, but that's it! So, if you like a wide variety of animals in your zoo, stick with zoo tycoon.
However, if you are more of a graphics person, this game doesn't disappoint. The animals are alot more realistic than zoo tycoon and so are the people and plants. This game is the best I've seen for these types of zoo games when it comes to graphics. However, because the graphics are so good, they were severely limited in how many animals they could put in the game. After all, a cd-dvd can only hold so much.
As for game play, if you like a game that you don't have to do a lot of thinking and that takes little time to learn, this ISN'T the game for you. The set up is complicated with many tabs and sub-tabs. The people are harder to satisfy, though the animals are easy to please, but even the trees will complain of getting too cold, or the ground is too hard. The plants can even get diseases! To me, that was kind of lame. I'm interested in caring for the animals, not wasting time caring for trees and plants!
I still give the game 3 stars because it is entertaining once you get the game play down, and the graphics earn it an additional star, so 4 stars in all!

Thought it would be more like Zoo Tycoon, but it wasn't. Good thing it was inexpensive. Maybe I have just been spoiled by Zoo Tycoon.

It was okay I guess. The graphics are quite a bit better than average, but there aren't that many animals. There are only three types of extinct animals, and the same number of marine animals. You have to care for practically every guest, although the animals are relatively easy to please. Zoo Tycoon 2 is a bit better, as it has more animals and involvement, but it's a lot less realistic-looking. The animals are aesthetically pleasing, but their behavior seems to be somewhat limited. It's not a bad management game; I mean it's interesting, but rather complicated.

My grandson loves this game and had to show Gma that the first several campaigns are the tutorial. Then it gets harder, but there are glitches you have to satisfy: eg. You mend a fence and the game is still waiting on you to mend the fence. I find it annoying, but my grandson says "Just do this Gma" ...and it works. One campaign scenario wants you to make your own park, gives you only $5000 to do it with, and no one comes to visit your park. Sandbox is fully do it yourself with almost no money, and they still give you things you need to do. I gave the game to my grandson only he needs my monitor's 2.0+ to play it with. His runs XP.

This game was not as good as I expected, mostly due to the frame rate. Ten FPS on my gaming PC is unacceptable. I did not get much enjoyment out of it because it was basically unplayable. The loading times are about 2-5 minutes on average, and once in the game you can barely do anything. But, if you can get over that, it is a fairly solid, but complex, business simulation game. I can't really recommend the game when there are those such as Zoo Tycoon and it's sequel, and even the last game in this series, Wildlife Park 2.

I loved the Zoo Tycoon game, but it is a memory hog and my computer would hang up when running it. So I tried this game - it's now my new favorite. Highly recommend it!

I think, I enjoy Zoo Tycoon a little bit more. Designing the exhibits were a chore in itself. I would say that if you want a bit more of a challenge then go for it, otherwise order Zoo Tycoon.

harder than expected to design a park. bought this for my grandson who is very creative but could not get this to work without help from his dad and still had some issues. Once they figured things out they were still somewhat disappointed because it did not do all they had expected from the description.

It was just as described. Wonderful graphics and fun to play. The only thing I don't like is there is no involvement in the zoo itself, just running it.
