This review is from: Vivaldi - Concerti per Liuto e Mandolino / Il Giardino Armonico (Audio CD)
Il Giardino Armonico was made for Baroque music. Along with their rendition of the Brandenbergs (played like a house on fire), this lute and mandolin recording is a gem. Due to its very nature, the mandolin can tend to become cloying. The short double strings, the small body, etc. But on this recording, the artists make the mandolin become lilting and mellow.
I gave up on Vivaldi over twenty years ago, due to the rampant overuse of The Four Seasons. Il Giardino has brought me back into the fold. I highly recommend this CD to anyone who likes Baroque music, and even to people new to music that is more than 50 years old. |
