5.0 out of 5 stars Knowledge of Italian NOT Needed =), December 28, 2009

This review is from: Vivaldi: Concerti per violini I 'La caccia' (Vivaldi Edition) (Audio CD)
To second what an earlier reviewer had to say, the combination of violinst Enrico Onofri and composer Vivaldi is a gift for the listener. My only regret is not purchasing this disc sooner! This collection of violin concertos with titles is the strongest argument I've heard against charges that Vivaldi's music is repetitive or mechanical (and musical evidence has to be stronger than verbal, right?). In addition to the soloist's singing tone, lusciuous orchestral textures and rhythmic energy of the disc, the individual character of each of these pieces is brilliantly illuminated for the audience. So we get a showy, strutting "Mogul", nerve-wracking (yet to my ears humorous!) "Inequietudine", a dreamy "Riposo" (dig the silvery yet warm muted strings), a rustic, stalking "Caccia" and a sneaky, insinuating "Sospetto". Two listenings and this disc has become (alongside Biondi's 'Estro Armonico') my favorite Vivaldi orchestral album! Even the liner notes are great: historically informative and insightful about the perfomer's love of this music. Moving, beautiful performances, highly recommended!!

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE IT!, September 14, 2008
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Vivaldi: Concerti per violini I 'La caccia' (Vivaldi Edition) (Audio CD)
Onofri is to Vivaldi what Milstein was to Bach-I can only say he seems to play Vivaldi with a unique understanding and approach that makes already wonderful Vivaldi literally melt in my ear...I love this CD!

5.0 out of 5 stars A La Caccia! Is Autumn!, July 16, 2011

This review is from: Vivaldi: Concerti per violini I 'La caccia' (Vivaldi Edition) (Audio CD)
Since the introdution of the first concerto, we can see the autumn colors. Strong chords, which resemble the march of the hunting horses, annoucing what is to come.
Although concerts are loose, the albun is organized so that transportate us into a story, or it can be said, a hunting day in the woods. We are led through the concertos for a only think, the concertos become sequential.
We start from a hectic morning refreshed, through horseback riding, wield bows and arrows, guns, concerns, suspicions and humor storms, to the final resting under a tree enjoying the sky and the air almost under the sound of silence.
I recommend the album for the repertoire and logical sequence, and each concert is a most delight than other.
The interpretation is exquisite, in charge of the Academia Montis Regalis and the violinist Enrico Onofri, who has a different and unique vision, giving us an almost romantic Vivaldi, but purely Baroque.
The violin is concise and rational, but with the "furie" characteristic of Vivaldi at the right times, the tranquility of a gondola ride in Venice, and the passion and fire that makes us realize a new Vivaldi, inserting new concepts of interpretation, recovering much of the Baroque, but without escaping the characteristics and possibilities of the eighteenth century period.
