For those who love classic music.
Marina
I'm more of a J.S. Bach fan, but Vivaldi had definetly outdone himself with these compositions.
Melissa Frierson
The music is inspirational, emotional, moving, raw and passionate.

When it comes to Vivaldi, I confess that I usually lean toward Trevor Pinnock and the English Concert, though I'm currently giving Christopher Hogwood and the Academy of Ancient Music a serious shakedown cruise. Tafelmusik, however, is another favorite period instrument ensemble which rarely disappoint, and as directed by Jeanne Lamon they certainly provide no letdown here, where they are joined by cellist Anner Bylsma for Eleven Concertos, just like it says on the album box. Most are works that, at least for me, are a bit out of the way -- except for RV151 "Alla Rustica." The performances are marvelous -- there is the bit of bite one would expect from period instruments, but the playing is smooth and the sound is spacious. And while none of these pieces rise to the level of The Four Seasons or Bach's Brandenburg Concertos, other reviewers' opinions notwithstanding, this is one fine album of well-played average Vivaldi -- meaning exiquisite, inventive and engaging Baroque music. Highly recommended.

I am not a musicologist. I can't go into the technical aspects. However, if you like classical music, and certainly if you already know Vivaldi, you will most likely like this collection. Vivaldi is one of my favorite composers. He is usually upbeat and bright. I put Vivaldi up with the best. This disk does not contain his most famous works but it is all Vivaldi and it's good. I put this on and engage "repeat all" and have wonderful classical music that at the same time relaxes me and energizes me. This is one of the reasons I listen to classical music. There's a lot of good stuff here. Enjoy.

This is by far my favorite classical music album. Anner Bylsma plays with a strength and passion that can be clearly felt, but it is Jeanne Lamon that steals the show; her undeniable skill shines through with amazing grace. The music is inspirational, emotional, moving, raw and passionate. This is the standard by which all Vivaldi should be measured; the greatest Vivaldi recording ever created. Excellent and exemplary. This is THE Definitive Vivaldi Concertos for Strings album. Truly amazing and awe-inspiring. It is raw, emotional and breath-taking... Like listening to Michelangelo paint the Sistine Chapel...

This is my favorite music performed by my favorite orchestra what could be better. I love Vivaldi, and while I agree that Bach is may be greater as a composed, all considered, it is Vivaldi I listen to every day. It is upbeat, uplifting, joyous, but not without a hint of sadness and pain... Tafelmusik is my favorite orchestra, I am so lucky to live in Toronto, which is their home base, so I can go to pretty much all their program performances. This CD is very enjoyable!

The sumptuous sound and top-notch playing of these lesser known masterworks is perfect for listening as well as for background music. This CD was a fabulous find!

Wonderful performances by Bylsma and Tafelmusik. Even within the works of the Red Priest, the group has selected a great variety of pieces. Enjoy.

I have long admired and followed Anner Bylsma's playing. As a classical doublebass player I attempt to emulate him by closely listening to his music and learning phrases and styles that help bring music to life. While this recording of Vivladi Concertos does not necessarily place the solo cello at its core, it in nevertheless an excellent collection, superbly recording and mesmerizing it is beauty. If you like Vivaldi this is a must have in your music collection.

My current favorite CD. Listening to it often. Cheery, upbeat, Vivaldi-style classical.
