Immense pleasure,
By "tgdallas" (Varkiza, Athens Greece) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Vivaldi for diverse instruments / PBO · McGegan (Audio CD)
Vivaldi has been accused of writing the same concerto over-and-over again. He wrote so many that you can always get the feeling that you have heard it all before. However, the unusual instrumental combinations on this disk dispense of the above doubts and offer an aural feast. I enjoyed this disc immensely. Two other suggestions for my top-three Vivaldi concerto disks: The Four Seasons with Drottingholm Baroque Ensemble (BIS), and Violin Concertos with Fabio Biondi (OPUS 111)

Enjoyable Above All,

The violinists are not as virtuosic as Fabio Biondi. The concerti are not as iconic as The Four Seasons. But this is glorious music, full of invention and variety, and on this disk Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra acquits itself as well as any European ensemble.

Incredible artistry, especially the solo violins. If you love Baroque, this is a must.
