5.0 out of 5 stars 6 Concerts for Various Soloists in Ideal Performance, April 2, 2005

This review is from: Vivaldi: Maestro de' concerti (Audio CD)
This 1986 recording by Andrew Parrott and his Taverner Players appears to be in the "tradition" of performances of Vivaldi's concerti "per molti stromenti", the list of soloists here amounting to no less than nine! These include Early Music greats such as John Holloway and Roy Goodman, violin, Marion Verbruggen, recorder, Janet See, flute, the unforgotten David Reichenberg, oboe, and Jakob Lindberg, archlute. How many Taverner Players were involved all together is not revealed by the rather thin booklet, but the sound is exquisite, ideally captured at London's Abbey Road studios. If you want to hear Vivaldi's music in a way that is both historical yet also makes it plain why Vivaldi was so popular in the first half of the eighteenth century, then you could scarcely do better than to buy this disc ... and enjoy!
