Editorial Reviews

"Viva Van Story is an accomplished photographer who is being justly acclaimed as a worthy successor to Bunny Yeager. Van Story is taking the parameters of “cheesecake” to new levels and the result (to say the least) is haute-cuisine. Pretty damn hot haute-cuisine, actually!"  —Real Detroit Weekly

"VVS's photos are graced by the kind of drag strip dames and juice joint jezebels who populated the men's mags of the 1950s—with a decidedly modern edge. It's no surprise, then, that with NYC's vibrant burlesque scene, she's the photographer of choice for a wide range of tassel-twirling temptresses, hot-rod honeys, and tommy gun tarts."  —Eroszine

If you are looking for a pinup book that contains the same boring backdrops and themes, this is NOT the book for you. Viva van Story creates a story with every image she captures, and these stories aren't always light and cheery. However, this is what makes her art have so much more depth than the cookie-cutter photogs out there just trying to make a buck. After purchasing this masterpiece full of beauty and erotica, I knew I had to shoot with her and shoot with her I did! My fourth time shooting with her was less than two weeks ago. She is so passionate about her work and it is evident in this book, as well as the stunning images her and I have created. I highly recommend this book to anyone with an open-mind and a great imagination. Be prepared to go on a journey but be warned, you may fall in love with Viva just like I did. ; )

I was so excited when this book was released, I could not wait to get my hands on it! When it arrived, I certainly was not disappointed!
This book is so visually enticing, you will not be able to put it down! Viva has an intelligent, deep, complex take on female sexuality that is nothing short of riveting. The composition of each photo can be read visually like words in an expertly written novel; Viva's words being represented by light, shadow, line, juxtaposition of scenery and overall mood.
Each photo tells a story of many aspects of life: fear, sexuality, death, entrapment, humor, fight for individuality...To be able to capture these intense emotions through art with photography as your medium is a rare ability that Viva Van Story has mastered.
Having been lucky enough to have been photographed by Viva, I can also attest to her extremely professional manner. She cares so much about her clients. She made me feel very at ease and comfortable and she helped me ease into being a "Pin-up Model for the day". She is so hard working and passionate about her art! To be such a successful artist and yet, so sweet and caring about every one of her clients, is total professionalism! I will forever be a Viva Van Story fan!

Viva Van Story follows in the great tradition of female pin up photographers: Bunny Yeager, and Paula Klaw. Most of the racier and more memorable photographs of Betty Page are wrongly attributed to Photographer Irving Klaw. Few know that the studio was run with his sister Paula, and that she took many of the bondage shots of Betty, as well as did her hair, make up, and poses.

So now we have Viva following in Paula's fishet footsteps with a bevy of gorgeous models in fetishistic poses. To be honest, many of the latter Fetish photographers leave me cold. Their work is too polished and commercialized; I cut my teeth on the Betty Page photos as a boy. Back in the late '60s and early '70's my father kept a stash of old magazines and photos...late some nights he would get these out and "read" the articles. One night as a 6 or 7 year old boy I woke up and there was Dad, looking at photos of a Gorgeous Brunette in some distress. I stood staring for a while in the doorway. He knew I was there, and should be asleep. "Come in here". He said. "You should be asleep now" He scolded. "But I'll let you look at these if you promise not to tell your mother." I agreed, and have been hooked on Fetishistic photos of lovely women ever since....

Later in college I discovered Helmut Newton, and then Eric Kroll. They were and are interesting photographers in that the Fetish was only part of the image. They somehow hinted at something much deeper and more strange. The strangeness derives from the concept that Sexual Fetishes may not be so uncommon after all! In fact they may be lurking in all sorts of nooks and crannies in images seen on Television, Advertising, Home Magazines etc. Viva follows in this mold and adds her own style to it.

Viva is my favourite photographer !
I love Pinup, lingerie, beautiful girls and creative photos and that's what i found thanks to this book.
Viva's work is so amazing, she's creative, every photo is unique, there are so many details in this book, every time i watch it i discover new details, but i always feel the same thing : Admiration.

The World is bad for ladies, but with this book, ladies are so powerful, seems so confident, strong, i wish i could be Viva's model and become this powerful confident lady. But that's a dream, but a beautiful dream, and i never give up Viva, she has many things to offer to the World, Pin Up, Fetish, Lingerie, and gorgeous images !

Seriously, a creative, awesome, photographer is in town, men can tidy up their cameras : Viva knows how to show all the beauty and the femininity of a woman.

(Sorry for my english, i'm French, proof that Viva Van Story work hasn't borders and touch the whole World.)

Magnifique Viva, qu'est ce que je pouvais dire d'autres ? Je suis toujours admirative de votre travail, et je sais que vous m'épaterez encore et encore !

"Viva's Pinups" contains the very best of pinup photography from the most innovative photographer around, whose work is both a continuation and reinvention of the classic pinup tradition. Sure, there are the enduring retro references: The attention to period detail, the rich colouring, and the atmospheric lighting that evoke moods that extend beyond the photographed moment. But there's something more; an edge and tension that distances the images from being merely exercises in nostalgia and gives them an eroticism that is wholly contemporary, challenging, and liberating at the same time. And no one could mistake models like Mosh or Angela Ryan for being anything other than the strong, modern women they are. These are photographs that remind us that Life has the capacity to excite and expand beyond its normal bounds, and can be taken wherever we want it to go! So, if you're up for the trip, this book can't be recommended enough. And look out for the follow up collection this Spring, entitled "Sheer", which promises further explorations in erotic possibility by this groundbreaking photographer.
