Editorial Reviews

Review

The Mirabal sister's story is inspiring. Julia Alvarez made them available for the american public.
Now, the only survivor of the murder of the three sisters speaks her truth.
Well written. Captivating as the real story is.
It is a privilege to listen to Dedé Mirabal as she pours her memories and heart out to us.
Highly recommended.

I love this book.
Rafael Mirabal. So yo soy Mirabal tambien.

I bought this book electronically so i can keep it for ever. As a Dominican of Birth this is something that I don't want to forget. This was real, and should be given more importance in my country of birth. Now I know first hand how things really happened. I knew pieces of the Trujillo era as I have been reading along other books to find out the truth. Not the story that my parents and suegra(mother in Law) know and who are still confused. It is difficult to argue with old people when you someone that was not born during the era try to explain what really happened. I was born 13 years after the mirabal sisters were killed. My Family read what was on the newspaper which misleading and wrong most of the time. I had no knowledge of a fourth Mirabal sister and there children that became orphans due to such cruelty until two of my nieces went to the museum and it happen to be that Doña Dede was around and they brought back pictures a story that change thier lives. I cried and laughed with this book. This is a keepsake that i would show my kids in the future. i would love to meet Dede soon.

This is the story of the martyred Mirabal sisters who were murdered by the dictatorship of the 40's and 50's in DR. Learning so much more about the country of my ancestors and their past history. Hope this kind of government never reigns again in DR or anywhere else. Praying for Democratic governments all over the world.

Hace 17 años que leí " En Tiempo de Las Mariposas" de Julia Álvarez. Siempre me he sentido orgullosa de Las Hermanas Mirabal incluyendo a Dedé. Con este libro más aún. Me mantuvo conectada desde el primer día. Su forma de contar todo, excelente. Recomendado 100%
