This device is basically just a normal USB camera behind a lens which can focus really close. It has a metal stand which holds the camera the desired distance above its base, and you put the object on that base. The stand includes a twist height control, which can be used for zooming, as well as two joints, which can be used to point the camera in any direction. The camera comes with a ring of white LEDs around the lens, and a thumb wheel brightness control on the cord. The focus knob is at the other end of the camera from the lens, around one end of the cord.

My intended use is inspecting electronics boards.

Plusses
*It works! It provides enough magnification such that a 0402 surface-mount resistor basically fills the screen
*Works with Yawcam, (Google will find that) which can activate full 1600x1200 resolution
*Camera focuses from really close (docs say 5mm, I haven't measured it) to infinity, so it can be used as a normal webcam as well as a microscope
*Seller provided free shipping, and it arrived two days ahead of schedule.

Minuses
*Included software is basically useless. No obvious way to select 1600x1200 resolution.
*No real image improvement at 1600x1200
*Changing the zoom throws the image out of focus, so the focus has to be corrected again.
*Joints are weak, so changing focus and zoom will move the field of view. Easy to move the object back into view.

Notes
*Base is metal, so be careful putting powered electronics on it. I put a piece of paper under the board to prevent this kind of problem
*Camera is cylindrical and can be rotated so that any direction is up on the screen

I have used a few low to mid range USB microscopes. This one is certainly the best of the ones I have played with. I was surprised to get both the scope and the machined aluminium bracket for the listed price. The bracket is not absolutely perfect, but is still pretty good. The one issue is sometimes having small lateral movement when adjusting height, but not really a big deal since you can move it right back.

I mostly use it for science educational purposes or my own random amusement. I am pretty pleased with its capabilities and enjoy the wide range of magnifications it boasts.

My biggest issues are that as a result of the wide open options of magnification there is little way to determine the actual mag of an image without calibrating it. That is to say when I take a picture I do not know if I should mark it 50x or what. I have to separately measure that. I may mark the scope with a marker to help reduce that. The other issue is the software was not terribly impressive. I can imagine a lot of people being turned off to the product by the controller software. The Arcsoft Webcam Companion I got with another scope seems much friendlier. Alternatively YAW Cam has a lot more options and controls (like time lapse imaging) while being equally unfriendly. This scope's software is in a no man's land of not too friendly or not too powerful. Although it is also not too bad.

I like the scope. It should be pretty good for hobbyists, I presume it is a pretty good option for medical uses, and it would make for a decent science toy for a child around late middle school depending on aptitude. It would not work well for a grade schooler unless they have help with using it and are really engaged in science. If you think you might try it for a student try a smaller less expensive hand held one first. Then get something like this if their interest is pretty high with the hand held and they want pictures and videos of what they look at.

We use this microscope on our iMac (OS 10.7.5) with Apple Photo Booth software. It works perfectly.

Photo Booth automatically recognizes it as an external camera. Since Photo Booth takes pictures, we can take a picture of anything that the microscope "sees".

The microscope can reveal tiny organisms in creek water, pores on the ridge of your finger, incredible amounts of dirt in your keyboard. It will not magnify down to the cellular level. That's a different job for a different microscope.

I love it that we can see everything on the computer screen and don't need to look through an eye piece. That was the main reason I bought this - to have a convenient way to introduce children to world of tiny things, stoke curiosity and explore.

The metal stand is very well made and has a "macro" up and down twist control. There's a fine focus control on the back end of the silver tube, of the microscope itself.

I would definitely buy this again.

Back in the early 90s, I picked up one of the first consumer grade USB microscopes, and since then have used various models in my work. I needed a new one to ship to a service center overseas and picked up this Vividia model as well as the Aven 26700-300 ZipScope USB Digital Microscope with 2 Mega-Pixel 10x-50x Optical, 200x Digital Magnification. The Vividia has a few things going for it that the Aven doesn't. The stand for instance is way better, offering a more precise method of adjusting the position of the camera in reference to whatever you're wanting to look at. The fine tuning focus is also superior to the Aven. That being said, there is a bit of wobble in the stand, enough to irritate and make fine adjustments annoying. (See the video.) For maximum potential, be sure to adjust the camera in it's holder to that is can clearly focus in on the base when zoom and focus are maxed out. The included software isn't all that great, very basic. (There is a new version available on the Oasis website.) As another reviewer mentioned, it works great with Yawcam. For my usage, it's looking down on electronics while making repairs, with no problem getting a good view of 0402 and smaller components. The added attachments are still under investigation for other possible uses, but in the meanwhile, I'll be buying up a few more of these.
