5.0 out of 5 stars compelling
I had recently bought four of Enrique's albums ("Enrique Iglesias", "Vivir", "Cosas Del Amor" and "Version En Italiano") via amazon.com, because they are unavailable in the U.K. - I've been a fan since his U.K. singles, "Bailamos" and "Rhythm Divine" and U.K. Debut album, "Enrique" came out this year...

1.0 out of 5 stars I would not recommend it as the best example of Latin music
This album is not much different from his first. Same predictable boring songs good enough for the unsofisticated teenagers. Very irritating and unpleasant voice.

Debut album, "Enrique" came out this year in 1999. Everything he has recorded , so far, has been compelling and easy to listen to (I don't understand Spanish, but I understand what he is passionately singing about. The music and his vocal approach is very promising). It's hard for me to pick a favourite C.D. amongst his non-English speaking albums, but I've written this review with the "Vivir" album, because I liked his rendition of "Solo En Ti", which I instantly recognized as the old, U.K. hit by Yazoo (Vince Clarke and Alison Moyet), "Only You". Enrique's work is fresh and quite innovative for latin American music - may he continue to shine !

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent vehicle for a unique Latin voice, October 25, 2001
This review is from: Vivir (Audio CD)
Enrique Iglesias has one of the most distinctive voices in Latin music: supple, tremulous, and dripping with emotion. I think of him as the archetypal "sensitive guy" singer. "Vivir" is a great showcase for his style; the CD offers a balance of slow, passionate songs and fun, faster numbers.

"Vivir" starts out strong with the romantic "Enamorado por Primera Vez" and then moves on to "Al Despartar," an intense ballad with a rock flavor. Then comes "Lluvia Cae," a bubbly, fun song that Enrique tears into with total commitment. Other notable selections on the CD are the intense "Miente" and the stirring "Revolucion."

Although Enrique has gotten a lot of attention lately for his English-language "crossover" work, I find his most compelling songs to be the type of Spanish language songs found on "Vivir." This is an outstanding CD, and an essential choice for fans of Latin pop.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant music..great singer, October 15, 1999

I cannot believe that anyone could find this man's voice irritating. I am not a teeny bopper (far from it in fact), I can't speak spanish (although I can translate it after a few listens), but I have found this album great. Listening to it over and over. What I like about it the most is the way he performs the songs - the emotion in his voice is clear for anyone to hear and this makes each song a performance rather than just a sing-a-along. It makes a refreshing change from the karaoke-like rubbish that we are continuously bombarded with by others

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great CD and a must for all fans of Enrique, September 2, 1999

Enrique has come a long way; following the footsteps of his father, Julio. In fact Enrique's voice truly has the uncanny familiarity of Julio - sexy, sultry and very romantic. He is the modern version, of course. I love his music and play his CDs all the time - his music is very soothing and puts you in a relaxing mood, especially when listening to his songs at night. Keep singing fantastic music Enrique as I know your music will live on forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC!!!!, February 10, 1999

Enrique Iglesias has done it again! He has it all; looks, talent, and a sexy accent to top it off! VIVIR has shaken and moved this critic as did his first album. I'm sure all of his follow up albums will shake up the North American scene. He has made this "English-only" Georgian sit up and take notice. Thanks for moving me, Enrique! Jennifer James

5.0 out of 5 stars Enrique comes back strong. . . ., January 18, 1999

Enrique Iglesias emerges as the crowned prince of latin music. This album shows his evolvement in his lyrics and his music. The haunting and beautiful "Enamorado Por Primera Vez" mirrors the emotions of young people who fall in love with strong guitar arragements and Enrique's sexy voice. This album is what turned me into a latin music freak and I am Filipino. I greatly recommend this album and him. I expect that we will see Enrique evolve with each album that he puts out. This kid is one to watch and it does not hurt to be drop dead gorgeous!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Enrique Iglesias - Not Julio - Enrique!, August 7, 2007
This review is from: Vivir (Audio CD)
Vivir

Just because Enrique Iglesias' father is probably now a legend in both Spanish and American music, Enrique Iglesias has undoubtedly developed a tremendous following on his own. I neither compare him to his father, nor would I ever, and the only reason I even mention Julio is that so many others are always writing about the two in a side by side comparison as if they came as part of a package deal! (Amazon - that might be a good marketing technique!) Regardless, this CD is truly a good work of Enrique, as is evidenced by the three chart toppers off of this album - Miente, Solo En Ti, and Enamorado Por Primera Vez.

Enrique is definitely a Latin Music Pop Star, and well-deserved. The only mistake Enrique made was upon an interview, when asked what the one thing he would change in his life, he said he would change his male member! Now, of course, he is teased to no-end about his declaration to the world that he is unpleased with his birthright!
