I would characterize the 'voice' in this collection as wounded to slowness, to prairie existentialism; unsentimental because unpredictable. You'll want to sit for a bit, instead of sashaying around; reconsider 'commitment' to poetry and to reading; time spent reading isn't ever time wasted. The 'girl' speaking in her earlier books is the 'girl' speaking in this book, and she is still looking out the window, cigarette between fingers, not quite ready to burn it all down.
