3.0 out of 5 stars Vivitar Lens Review, March 6, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Vivitar 650-1300mm f/8-16 SERIES 1 Telephoto Zoom Lens with 2x Teleconverter (=650-2600mm) for Nikon D40, D60, D90, D300, D300s, D3, D3s, D3x, D7000, D3000, D3100 & D5000 Digital SLR Cameras (Electronics)
I have mated this lens to a Nikon D-40. For the price, I have been satisfied with the images I have been able to produce. Using a Nikon body requires that I set the camera to manuel mode. The F-stop is displayed upon the lens body and is absolute. This leaves only the shutter speed to be entered into the camera (as the F-stop is fixed depending on focul range). With a little expirementation you can take some fairly decent images. This lens is much more suited for still shots rather than action. I have taken some nice images from across ponds and rivers while camping, approximate distances of up to 600 feet. One draw back is that in order to increase the focul range one must slide the lens out (telescope style), and at longer focal ranges the lens is wobbly. A second disadvantage is that you need a fairly heavy tripod and head. At full focul range you have a lot of weight pulling the tripod head down.
