As a digital video recorder, the DVR-390H is essentially a miniature camcorder. Unlike a conventional type, there are no tapes to deal with. By recording directly to its internal memory or to a memory card, your images may be viewed or reviewed on the 3.6-inch TFT LCD display that is larger than many standard camcorders.

Several video recording choices are offered and you may select from two video resolutions--either 320 x 240 or 160 x 120. The option of recording your video with or without sound requires less memory, and extends recording capacity by 20%. Silent video is particularly useful if you intend to edit your video--perhaps adding a music track or doing a voice-over at a later time. Your DVR-390H videos may be played on your computer, e-mailed to a friend, stored on a CD-ROM, played on the main unit, your TV, or converted for use on a Web site.

This versatile product also acts as a 3-megapixel digital still camera. Users may select from three resolution settings, 2048 x 1536, 1600 x 1200, or 1280 x 960 (VGA). As a digital-still camera, the DVR-390H is an ideal medium for a variety of digital imaging needs ranging from e-mail and Web applications to images that are ready for display or print. Quality 8 x 10 prints are not a problem with the DVR-390H.

A third function of the DVR-390H is that of a voice recorder. You may use the DVR-390H as a recorder for voice or audio with its included clip-on microphone. You may save the file directly to memory and play it back on your recorder, computer, or e-mail an audio message to a friend or coworker. The impressive 20GB of internal memory has room for very large files. In digital video mode, you can record files of up to 4GB, which will last well over an hour. MPEG4 compression is the enabling technology which allows such extensive recording in such a small space. As a digital still camera, the DVR-390H may store hundreds of images in full resolution on the internal 20GB drive. Capturing your images on an SD card will allow you to share your results with other devices. In voice record mode you may record three to four hours of audio. The DVR-390H is a versatile way to store any of your multimedia files and play them back whenever you wish. The camera module is detachable and the base unit may be operated without it for playback. Imagine a digital camcorder that fits in your pocket or backpack. The included Muvee autoProducer program makes video editing easy.

Other features of the DVR-390H include an integral electronic flash with red-eye reduction in the camera module (for digital still images), focus-free operation, automatic white balance and exposure (with manual compensation, if desired), and a 10-second self-timer. The DVR-390H comes with a docking cradle that allows you to output to a TV or record from a video recorder, DVD player, or television broadcast. It also serves as a home for charging the battery and playing files with the AC adapter and has connectors for USB and video output cables. A stereo headphone jack and built in speaker in the main module let you comfortably listen to your recordings or MP3 files.
