A super sharp macro lens,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Vivitar - Macro lens - 100 mm - f/3.5 - Canon EF (Electronics)
I have always been craving for a true macro lens but could never justify the high costs. I took a chance at this cheap lens based on sparse reviews that seemed to inidcate its outstanding optical quality. This lens is truly spectacular for the price. Its not a true macro lens since it only does 1:2 by default. To get 1:1, you need to use the accompanying filter-adapter. Since this filter-adapter is specifically designed for this lens, it does not cause significant loss in optical quality like the way most add on macro filters do. AF quality is the same as the Canon 50mm f/1.8, but since it has a long travel, the AF feels a lot worse. Essentially this is useless as an AF portrait lens. For macro, AF is less of a concern anyways (at 1:1 or high maginification, moving the camera body is much easier). I use this with a 7D and extension tubes to get upto a 2:1 magnification.
