Great Little Digital HD Video Cam,
By R. C. Hughes "grizzly hughes" (Altamonte Springs, Florida United States) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Vivitar DVR 840XHD 8.1 Megapixels High Definition Digital Video Camcorder with 5x Optical, 4x Digital Zoom and 3.0'' TFT LCD Display, Red (Electronics)
This little red video camera makes sharp colorful videos with excellent audio. I've been using mine frequently for about a year now, and have only minor complaints. One of them is that the video quality seems to be better in the regular mode. As one of the other comments states, it's a little "grainy" in HD. Don't know why, and don't care. It is a relatively inexpensive camera, and shoots excellent quality movies in regular mode. For more examples of the video quality, visit my site on YouTube. Just look up grizzlyhughes. Every one of my videos is shot with this little gem.

Poor quality and no SDHC support!!!,
By Alex Lua "Alex" (Merced, Ca) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Vivitar DVR 840XHD 8.1 Megapixels High Definition Digital Video Camcorder with 5x Optical, 4x Digital Zoom and 3.0'' TFT LCD Display, Red (Electronics)
The camera doesn't support SDHC memory cards like it says on the box and website, which means you can't put more than 8 GB of memory onto it; so you'd have to buy the regular and more expensive SD cards with faster data transfer rates. SUCKS! Also, this camera records great quality, but once there's the slightest movement on the camera's point of perspective (aka a shaky hand), then the quality of the video drops, even with Stabilization turned on. ALSO, the stabilization option isn't available for the WVGA 60 fps or the 1080p 30 fps resolution settings, what!? I'm going to return this thing right away, I hate it. i'm going with a Sony probably

Do not buy this camera!! Images are grainy, especially in low light. My Canon Point and Shoot takes much better video than this supposed HD camera. Not a good deal at any price given the size.

do not buy this piece of trash mine worked less than a year. and I was taking excellent care of it. I am a professional cameramen who has been working for more than 20 years in the big networks. I bought it just to carry something light with family vacations. I called several times to customer service that is on Thailand and they are just a bunch of liars. Vivitar customer service is the worst thing that you can see.

Worked for me Four Times,
This review is from: Vivitar DVR 840XHD 8.1 Megapixels High Definition Digital Video Camcorder with 5x Optical, 4x Digital Zoom and 3.0'' TFT LCD Display, Red (Electronics)
I was so excited to get this camera because, from what I read, it had great specs. I intended to make home/music videos with it, and to shoot still photos... Well, I've had the camera since 2009, and have gotten to use it about four times. Why? The battery, IF it decides to charge, holds power for less than an hour if you're shooting video... If you have a VERY STEADY HAND. The slightest disturbance, and your videos will look like you were filming during an earthquake. As for stills, I have no idea because the camera seems to have a mind of its own. If you're thinking I got a 'lemon', then I must have gotten two. After months of frustration when trying to use it, and after I figured out that my problem wasn't "user error", I took it back to Radio Shack to see if they could exchange it, or send it as a defect back to Vivitar. They gave me a brand new camera, out of the box, and I'm having the SAME PROBLEMS. It is hooked up to the charger, as I write this, and it won't turn on. The indication light, that tells me it's charging, isn't even on. It used to work if it was plugged in, but not now! The camera has been sitting in its box, in a drawer, in a bedroom, for about a year. I want to use it so badly, but apparently it doesn't want to provide its services to me. When it was brand-new, I'd have problems with it 'deciding' if it wanted to power up when I opened the screen - sometimes it would... Most of the time, it wouldn't. Again, I've gone through two of the same camera (thankfully, I only paid once. I think it's overpriced, to begin with). It's never, ever, seen 'abuse' - no water, no sand, no.... NOTHING. I've had it in my house... It's never been dropped, scratched, nada, although it would probably serve better as a hockey puck than a video/photo recording device.I wish I would have just bought a Flip camera. My mom has one, and I constantly borrow it because A) it works every time, B) it's super easy to upload videos C)the videos are ready to be uploaded straight from the camera, and C)it's less expensive than this POS Vivitar. Too bad I can't go back and buy one of those, instead of wasting my money on this one. DON'T BUY IT. YOU'LL REGRET IT! If you DO, however, and it does not make you want to put your head through a brick wall, then congratulations! You must have gotten one of the rare ones with no defects, and I'm surprised!

I have used this camcorder every day for the past two weeks since I bought it. It has great quality HD for an entry level camera and works well with a tripod.

Bought this for my husband for Father's Day thinking he can shoot some cute baby pics. What a waste...I should of read up on it first & just saved up a bit more money & bought a nicer one. I can't even say it is anything but a toy for child....an expensive one at that.
