I have tried other flashes that stated they were for the Olympus E-410 taking advantage of the cameras features. These other flashes I also got on amazon, did not perform with my camera. This flash from vivitar is TRULY compatible with the Olympus E series SLR digital cameras. I am very particular and have been photography for a while not proffessional but have done all manual up to auto digital and if you want a simple and truly automatic flash for your Olympus this is the flash! This is not for professional or in need of extreme high power etc this is a cost effective and true auto flash. This would be excellent for the beginner who wants more professional results at good price and extremely easy to operate. This is what you do when you get the flash to start taking great pics with your Digital slr E- series REALLY! 1) open box and dont bother with instructions you dont need them trust me! 2)Load with good batteries. 3)Put it on your olympus hot shoe above your camera flash. 4) Turn on the flash and wait for the ready light to turn red. 5)Turn on the camera set to auto mode. 6)Take the picture honestly thats it and you get awesome correct exposed pics. I tried the flash in complete darkness to see if the red infared sensor in the flash would do as it said to assist the camera with focus in low light shots (which i had trouble with with the camera flash. It would keep flashing and try to focus on the subject forever!) This flash in total darkness! was able to not only correctly expose to perfection it was in perfect focus and no delay in taking the picture as with the integral camera flash that doesnt work good in low light with pweople. This flash will do what you want but dont expect it to perform at distant subject uses it wont do that you need an actual Olympus flashes made for the e-series.Read more ›

For a ~$40 flash, this one works pretty well with my Olympus EP1. It's fully compatible with the 4/3 system.

Like the other reviews say, build quality is rather cheap. You shouldn't expect much at this price point but I still feel a bit nervous when I insert the flash into the hotshoe that something is going to break (it uses clips instead of a screw to keep it in place).

Even for a flash this cheap, however, I did expect a slightly better range. I have to set the flash to +1.0 pretty much all the time, and recently at short range on an outdoor shoot I set the flash to +3.0 for FILL IN and it still wasn't strong enough.

Like I said, you almost get what you pay for, but I'm not satisfied. I'll be upgrading to a better Vivitar as soon as I can raise the funds.

This flash is an excellent small flash for any camera system. Works great, has a fast on/off switch, does bounce flash. only 2 AA batteries, and has red-light AF assist too! Excellent locking system as well. Cheap! Build quality is not super solid but with care it should last a while.

I have used this flash unit for almost a year, mainly shooting hummingbirds, butterflies and flowers. It has always worked very well for me. The recycle rate is ok, considering it only uses two AA batteries. I would estimate its about 1-2 seconds between shots.
I have found the build quality to be good. My unit feels solidly built.
Some reviewers have written that thiers seem to be cheaply made. Maybe I got a good one?
I always put in fresh batteries for each shoot and have often shot up to five hours straight with heavy flash usage and never had any problems or had to change batteries.
However, make sure to turn the unit off, or take out the batteries as they will drain completely if you leave the unit on when in your camera bag.
I also like the size of the flash. Its not too big and doesn't take up too much space in my camera bag.

Overall, this has been a great flash unit for me.

It's good in low light condition and good for taking pictures within 10 feet (enough for parties, all general occasion).
It's small and compact (so, not enough light for large area).
Without this flash, the build-in flash of the camera will strobe at least 5 times to focus an object.
If you use your camera about 10 to 15 times per year, buy this one.
About shipping, I get it sooner than expected.
