5.0 out of 5 stars Great camera for the price
I just received this camera and love it. It is small and light-weight, and takes great pictures. It also uses SD cards up to 512 MB so you have plenty of storage for photos.

This camera does everything I need it to do and has a built-in flash, several flash modes, red eye reduction, a self timer, date and time stamp, and the capability to take video/movie...

3.0 out of 5 stars An average camera!
This is an ok camera in my opinion. Not a bad camera, just didn't meet my standards! When I first got it I was just so excited to have a camera since my last one was stolen, that I loved it. After a while of using it I noticed a few flaws that I was dissappointed with! At times the flash can be really harsh, and if you turn the flash off, you are 90% guarenteed to have a...

I just received this camera and love it. It is small and light-weight, and takes great pictures. It also uses SD cards up to 512 MB so you have plenty of storage for photos.

This camera does everything I need it to do and has a built-in flash, several flash modes, red eye reduction, a self timer, date and time stamp, and the capability to take video/movie clips.

The camera worked instantly with both my Apple ibook and my PC and the photos were great.

Just two notes - 1) it takes several shots to get used to taking super pix. You can manually adjust the shutter speed and if you have the speed too slow, you will get fuzzy pictures unless you are perfectly still. So, I just use the auto shutter feature, and 2) the camera does NOT come with a power adapter so you have to use lots of batteries unless you buy the AC adapter separately.

5.0 out of 5 stars Little beauty, March 8, 2006

This review is from: Vivitar Vivicam 5385 5MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom (Electronics)
My first digital camera was a Sony Mavica, the photos were OK but after a few yrs I started to get disapointed in the quality. While in Walmart I seen this 5 MP Vivitar for only $147. I got it along with some batteries and a 128 SD card all for $200. Ive had the camera for almost a year now and Im just blown away with the quality of the photos, sunrises are unbelieable. Its always worked, very rugged and durable, and yea the thing is battery hungry, so I buy my AA's in bulk and also hav the rechargables. The movie mode I dont use it much I hav a mini DV for that. I was a little embarassed cuz its not a name brand high dollar unit, but if you can liv with that, its a great little camera and how u gonna beat that price? You cant!

3.0 out of 5 stars An average camera!, November 19, 2006
This review is from: Vivitar Vivicam 5385 5MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom (Electronics)
This is an ok camera in my opinion. Not a bad camera, just didn't meet my standards! When I first got it I was just so excited to have a camera since my last one was stolen, that I loved it. After a while of using it I noticed a few flaws that I was dissappointed with! At times the flash can be really harsh, and if you turn the flash off, you are 90% guarenteed to have a blurry picture! The 10% chance of a decent picture is if it is completly still like on self timer mode, but still the quality just isn't that great with out the flash. Close ups are not much of an option!! I like to take pictures of flowers but that was near impossible with this camera, you couldn't get close enough without it being blurry and over exposed from the flash! But on a good note, I have gotten some good pics from this camera, it's easy to use and it's not too big. It's a good choice if you just wanna take average photos of friends and family and just everyday life, but for those artistic photographs I love to take, I just wasn't satisfied. I am now lookig for another camera to meet my needs!

1.0 out of 5 stars Quite possibly the worst electronics purchase ever made, March 26, 2009
This review is from: Vivitar Vivicam 5385 5MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom (Electronics)
This is quite possibly the most inferior electronics product I have ever purchased. (It is a close second to a Brother All In One Printer that I purchase several years back that set an internal timer on printer ink cartridges, 3 months.) It is COMPLETELY UNRELIABLE. I've tried to be the optimist and "just carry and extra set of batteries or two, or three," but that doesn't help. Regular batteries, drained just by turning it on. Brand new Duracell batteries (Vivitar recommended), 10 photos. 2300mH rechargeable batteries, 6-8 photos. The video recording feature, low resolution, and only works when it wants too. I feel like even more of a sucker because I paid full price for this camera. I actually chose it over an HP! Stupid! So much for my two B.S. degrees. Please, save your self the disappointment. I've now missed, 1st steps of nephew walking, bald eagle mating while kayaking, snow on my property in the foothills, hot girl flashing me her [...], motorcycle wheelies, and now today, the most beautiful countryside in the Sierra Nevadas. How beautiful you ask? You'll just have to take my word for it, because the video footage doesn't exist. I contemplated giving this to a my neighbors kid, but I would hate for them to go through the same thing. Oh, and if you're thinking, "maybe he just got a bad camera." Nope. Actually returned the first one because of the battery issues. The second one I sent back because it only wanted to record when it saw fit. Try three, all with the same problems. Vivitar actually acknowledged that this model has " battery consumption issues. " It's so bad I'm just throwing it in the trash, not even donating it.
By the way, some of these glowing online product reviews are ringers from the company manufacturing the products posted as damage control for crappy products. Not saying that these are but it is something to keep in mind.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not even a good starter camera, December 10, 2006
This review is from: Vivitar Vivicam 5385 5MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom (Electronics)
I have disliked this camera from the moment I first used it. Unfortunately I didn't do any research before buying it, I bought it spontaneously at WalMart for about $150. It eats up the batteries really fast, if the batteries aren't brand new, forget getting any kind of decent picture if the lighting isn't perfect. I am going to sell this thing on ebay for whatever I can get out of it. If somebody offers me a dollar, I'll take it. I would like to say that this is a great starter camera, but I am sure there are cameras out there on the market for the same price, or cheaper, that take better pics and don't eat batteries.

2.0 out of 5 stars Didn't live up to it's reviews at the time., January 3, 2010
This review is from: Vivitar Vivicam 5385 5MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom (Electronics)
I bought this camera about 3 years ago. At the time it had great ratings so I went ahead a bought it from another store. It takes horrible pictures. If it is not a picture taken outside with lots of light you will get a dark grainy picture. The video on it is pretty good again in bright light. I would not recommend this product.

3.0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for..., November 27, 2008

I'll have to admit, I've owned this camera for a few years & it honestly has been a decent camera. We've taken many pictures, pretty good ones & have gotten a lot of use out of it. Unfortunately, we've also bought A LOT of batteries & wasted a lot of time waiting for the flash and/or figuring out the flash cadence, taking about 10 pictures of organized family Christmas joy just to get one good one to send to friends & relatives.

However, I am just an amateur photographer, mainly taking pictures of my unused, unwanted crap to sell on ebay & craigslist rather than of friendly outings, concerts & myspace photos, half the time forgetting to even bring the camera or being too lazy to get it out of my wife's purse. If you're looking for a decent, cheap camera just to say you have one, this is the one for you. If you're looking to take photographs of your favorite bands just to make it on their myspace page, calling yourself a photographer, there are much better cameras out there.

3.0 out of 5 stars decent, November 26, 2008
By
This review is from: Vivitar Vivicam 5385 5MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom (Electronics)
Took pictures and never broke on me, but the batteries are ridiculous. As noted, they are spent quickly. Also the pictures ALWAYS turn out fuzzy and blurry, maybe I am doing something wrong but the quality is very poor. Color and focus are frequently messed up as well. Does take video fine and zoom works well, just not great quality. I am upgrading to a better camera that actually takes a picture instead of a blur.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good camera, but more is spent on batteries than the camera itself, August 3, 2007
This review is from: Vivitar Vivicam 5385 5MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom (Electronics)
I got this camera for my birthday two years ago and I loved it! It takes really good pictures and it has an automatic stabilizer so if the camera is moving, the picture won't come out blurry. The only bad thing about this camera is that it eats up batteries really quick. If you buy non brand batteries, the camera won't even turn on. So you usually end up spending more money buying the more expensive batteries just so the camera would work.

I still use the camera to this day. Unfortunately I dropped it by accident last summer so the screen gets black here and there, but it's still a good camera. Just make sure you have enough money to buy extra batteries.
