This item worked great for precisely two photo shoots.

Then the cable broke. This item is useless without the cheaply made cable. I searched high and low for a replacement cable but cannot seem to find one anywhere. At least not at a price that makes sense. It's cheaper to just buy a new unit.

I even called Vivitar but they were less than helpful. First I was put on hold and then the call was disconnected. Then I called back and they told me since it's wireless it doesn't need a cable. I laughed and tried to explain that while the transmitter to the receiver is wireless the receiver has to communicate with the camera somehow. At this point the customer service representative began to belittle me and act extremely disrespectful to me. I was finally put on hold for several minutes and then told to send it in to them and they will replace the item in 1-2 months. That is an unacceptable time frame for me.

I would steer clear of dealing with Vivitar if this is any indication of how things run over there.

The seller delivered the item in a timely manner and I have no complaints with them.

This is the best wireless remote of its class and price range. You'll get some phenomenal shots of yourself and your family using this Vivatar wireless remote and with out a lot of tedious hassle of set up and headaches from faulty equipment that is unreliable and doesn't work half the time. I ended up tossing out 2 prior purchases of remotes from other "no name" manufacturers due to frustration in consistency.

There are also bonus features on this remote that are a dream come true:
***** Continous shooting mode ***** After you set the focus on it with a light tap you can then press the button and it will fire off 5 shots at 2 second intervals. My Nikon allows for this also, but you have to find it on the menu set it all up and after a few minutes of time you'll get this. With the Vivatar remote it only takes a second to flip the switch to this mode and you are ready to go, simply amazing!
***** 2 second remote timer ***** After you focus yourself or the group in the photo you press the button and then after 2 seconds the remote will then take the picture. The big plus on this feature is that it allows to tuck away the remote in your pocket so that it is not seen in your photos.

Great product overall and a steal of deal for the price.

Sincerely,
Greg Arbutine

This wireless remote is so easy to use. I'm pretty bad at setting these types of gadgets up but this comes with an awesome little book that's short sweet and to the point. Very easy to use and seems quite solid in construction, i'm sure i'll get alot of use out of this instead of having to worry about people taking bad shots i'll just setup my tripod now and do it all on my own. Works on my D300 great!

EDIT: I have now had this Wireless Shutter Release over 3 years. It is still going strong. I use it all the time for HDR photography and haven't had one bit of problem. I paid just under fifty bucks for this back in 2010 and I would pay that again even though it's going for twenty less than that now. Haven't had to replace the battery yet. I have probably used it for 20,000 to 30,000 photos. Also use instead of camera timer when taking family photos and I'm in the picture. I can trigger the camera when ready as the remote is small in your hand. I have triggered the remote from a couple hundred feet away. Still recommend.

Original Review: I bought to use with my Nikon D300s. I use this camera mostly for HDR and this remote is perfect. I like that I can use wired or wireless, sort of a bonus. I am never more than a few feet away from my camera while shooting so I don't have any real distance tests.

* Will work with auto-bracketing! Small and tucks into small pocket in camera bag. Would be nice to have a case. Transmitter is about the side of a bic lighter. Receiver is the size of a zippo lighter. Cord that connects the receiver to the camera is coiled nicely. You can stretch it about 3 feet (1M) before it pulls on the camera. It screws to the camera, and fits tightly.

If this receiver had Nikon instead of Vivitar, it would cost $200 more. This thing is an extreme value for what it does and what you pay.

Just get it!

Took me a few minutes to figure out how to get it to work wit the camera, but once I did, there is no looking back. I originally thought the transmitter HAD to be on the hot shoe attachment, but it doesn't. Only challenge is the inconvenience of having the wire hanging from the front of the camera if you don't remove it when you are not using the remote, but worth the hassle of removing if it bothers you. I just recently read a suggestion to velcro the receiver to your tripod leg and I think it is a great idea and will do that so that the receiver does not just hang there when I am using a flash AND the remote.
