This review is for the CD + DVD version of "Vivo en Vivo." The DVD is the video of the live concert that's on the CD.

It's unfortunate that more of Efecto Mariposa's music isn't more readily available as CDs or MP3s on Amazon.com or iTunes. It's a damn shame its music label hasn't done a better job of promoting this group outside of Europe.

Efecto Mariposa has been around for a surprising long time. Compared to the lead singers of La Oreja de Van Gogh and El Sueno de Morfeo, lead singer Susana Alva has a better singing voice.

This CD + DVD is a live concert in a small venue with a very small audience. Since the concert is done in small venue, the sound quality is very good. It's so good that I suspect the concert was held in a recording studio, but it still has the feel and energy of a live concert.

The DVD video was shot with hand-held video cameras which adds a live and spontaneous concert feel. I don't think I would have enjoyed the CD without watching the concert on the DVD.

There are no new songs on the CD + DVD. They are just "live" versions of previously released songs; however, I think these are better than the original releases. Belen Arjona, Coti, Javier Ojeda, and Pereza are also featured on the CD + DVD singing with Susana Alva.

"Vivo en Vivo" is a real treasure if you like Spanish pop music with a rock edge. If you've never heard Susana Alva sing, you'll soon become a fan of Efecto Mariposa after you hear her.
