4.0 out of 5 stars Great tiem but a couple of issues... January 10, 2010
OK, first of all, I love this item. I use it every day for my lunch at work, and wash it every night in the dishwasher. Very useful. A bit big for one person. I use the empty bottom tray for paper napkins, seasonings and cutlery. Main course in the middle tray, and the top tray (which is divided into 1/2, 1/4 and 1/4 sections is great for (e.g.)yoghurt, blueberries and a couple of crackers or cookies. Really the permutations are endless. One day I might take salad and left over desert, another day sushi and fruit with a chocolate bar. The space is large enough and adaptable enough for any meal - with the following reservations:

NOT SUITABLE FOR MICROWAVING
The box is made of melamine, is dishwasher safe but will release chlorine if microwaved.

NOT WATERTIGHT
If this box falls over, any liquids in the partitions of the top tray will leak into each other, and liquids in any compartment will leak out. I have a lovely stain on my car seat from balsamic vinegar which leaked out when the empty box fell over and the few remaining drops of dressing made a bid for freedom. This leakability is less of a problem than you might think - you carry it by the top handle, and it sits very securely on the square base. If you put heavier stuff in the bottom trays, then you increase stability. But definitely not suitable for soup (will leak and can't microwave).

This box comes in a number of colours (mine is all black), so I am going to post this review in each of the different versions because the design is exactly the same.

I get lots of interest and compliments on the box, and... did I mention that I love it? Grin.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice looking, but not everything I wanted January 26, 2010
This lunch box has a really stylish look, moreso than most other boxes out there. However, aside from looks, there are a few things about it that fell short of expectations. Like many other reviewers have said, this box is really too big for a single person's meal. It would be great for a two-person picnic lunch. The tiers don't fit together super well, you have to kind of jiggle them to make them fit together, and even then it's not a good seal - I wouldn't try to put any wet kinds of food in here, or store food for more than a day. Also, my enjoyment of the box was short lived - the box was knocked off my table, and shattered on the floor. Now, this was totally my fault, but I would expect that a $35 lunch box wouldn't shatter when it falls off the table.

It looks really nice though...

3.0 out of 5 stars OK product August 26, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase
This product is somewhat too large to be a lunch box (i.e. its capacity is larger than even most sizable eaters would need for lunch, as some reviewers for the item in other colors have noted) and rather too small to be used as a jubako (a set of japanese tiered lacquer boxes used to hold food for multiple people).

Also, I think the quality could be better. The tiers need a bit of jiggling sometimes to fit together closely. The metal band, in particular, looks like it is made cheaply (in that the metal seems of lower quality than the material used in metal banding on other products I own, like the Bodum French press).

Nonetheless, the product when not examined closely is cute and distinctive (in the US, at least).

I think the product should either be made a bit better or the price should be somewhat less.
