Lunch for the whole office?,

If you're planning to use this for traditional bento, it's way too large at a capacity of 4488ml, or roughly 7 bento meals for an average woman.
This type of stacking container is actually called a tiffen, though those are traditionally made of metal and are watertight. For green salad or other foods that are not nutritionally dense this might work, but you will still have a lot of empty space and food will slide around inside. It would hold a nice salad and sandwich lunch for two, and being made of melamine, it is not safe to use in the microwave. The gaps between the individual dishes are more pronounced than you'd expect from the pictures. It will not hold water or even a thick chili. Even though I have the above complaints you'll probably notice I gave it 4 stars. It's very nicely made. Sturdy, stylish and unusual it has attracted attention everywhere. The metal carrier is functional and the whole thing latches together securely but is still easy to open and close. The individual sections placed out on the table are very nice looking too. The top layer is divided into three sections and it's a little shallower than the two other layers. I bought one in this color, one in the white/blue/grey and two of the smaller round ones labeled for children. For my own lunches the round ones are going to see a lot of use. At 977ml, they would be the perfect size for a man's lunch if packed full, and about right for a woman's if the layers are filled about 2/3 full. The two larger square ones will probably be reserved for picnic duty, or to bring mixed cold foods to a party or potluck. For this task I would assume the still larger oval ones would be even better. For those of us who care about these things, the metal carrier and melamine containers are all made in Thailand. The top of the handle is embossed with the words 'gold fish brand'. Amazon, how about including the country of manufacture as a standard in the product description?

When I first got my little square tiffin, I thought, "is that all there is?" until I actually used it. That thing can hold just about anything, plus plenty of room for bento accessories. I have room for lunch _and_ snacks at work.
It also doesn't hurt that the box is so cute that it gets lots of compliments. It's a real conversation starter.

Although this is labeled as a bento box, it's actually a tiffin. Unlike traditional tiffins which are usually light stackable water tight metal containers, this is a hard, colorful, heavy container which is not water tight. Also make note that you can NOT microwave this container.
Specifics: It has three compartments which can be latched together with the metal closure on top. The compartments are interchangeable; if you want the red on top, pink in the middle, etc. The orange and red compartments are the same size with no dividers. The smaller pink compartment is divided into three sections, 2 small squares on one side, and one rectangle on the other side. Unless you are eating sumo porportions, this lunch kit is probably too big for most (the company does make a smaller round version, which is probably good enough for most adults). I usually pack breakfast, lunch, and snacks for the entire day. Since the top of the container has a slightly convex construction, I've found that if I move one of squares from the bottom to the top, I can fit a mini water bottle into it. Regular capri sun or juice boxes can fit with ease into any compartment. Since I cannot microwave the container, and it is not water tight, I've found that I can still pack soups or liquids in small plastic containers and then of course remove them from the kit to microwave. When fully packed, this container is like lifting some light arm weights and when I walk to my car at night I figure if anyone comes after me, swinging it at them will definently leave a mark, so if you want a light toss it in your bag container, this isn't it. Other than the few negatives, this is a great sturdy kit which often gets compliments and ooos and ahhs when you pull it out on a lunch break.

While this bento box is sturdy and colorful, it's far too large for lunch for one. It's also fairly heavy, which makes it impractical for a lunch container, at least if you commute to work via public transportation. I'm keeping it and will find other uses for it, but it won't be holding my lunch!

I looked at all of the reviews for this product and everyone said they loved it but that it was just too big, but my gut feeling was telling me that this was the exact item that I wanted and I couldn't be happier! I am able to pack all of my lunch and a napkin, spoon, fork, etc. I love that it is something different! No one else I work with has one. I also love that I don't have to deal with tipped over lunches and stuff being everywhere because it all stays perfectly stacked and neat.

I got this bento box for my birthday and it is amazing! You can easily pack multiple meals into it, 2 sandwiches will fit easily in the large containers, the smaller section is perfect for small snacks, cheese, veggies, etc.
I took mine to school and the other teachers fell in love with it! Everyone wanted to know where I got it and where they could get one. It's definitely a hit.

I miss mine,

My sweet sister bought me one of these years ago. Used it faithfully for lunch everyday (put it in the fridge at work) and it never let me down. I moved not too long ago and I guess the box it was in was dropped or crushed because the lid broke, rendering it useless. I now use the top part in the fridge for sauces gathered from take out places and the bottom two work great as deep bowls! Even though it's no longer a bento box it is still useful and I recommend to anyone. The colors are true and vibrant. The only catch I can think of is the metal contraption it sits in, not the most solid feeling but it holds it together for transport well.

I recieved this Bento Box for Christmas and I couldn't be more thrilled. I usually eat breakfast and lunch at work and the large size lets me bring everything I need in one container. One large square fits my breakfast, the other large square fits my lunch and the small compartments are perfect for snacks. This box will also be ideal for short road trips!
I do wish the comparments were water tight and microwaveable but the larger sqaures are big enough to hold a small container of liquid. |
