5.0 out of 5 stars Excellant TV
I have had this TV for around a week now and I love it. It has a very good picture for HD, using either over the air or playing Blu-Ray and HD DVD discs on my players. Blu-Ray discs on the Playstation 3 are stunning. My TV is positioned opposite a window and I get very little glare from the window during the daytime. The frame has more glare than the screen does. 1.0 out of 5 stars Power failed after 16 months
We've had this Vizio Gallevia 47" Plasma TV for 16 months having bought it from a big box store (S's C). Its been great until 2 days ago when the screen just shut off. No warning. There's power to the TV as the logo is yellow but it won't respond. Vizio don't want to know because its out of its one year warranty and went very quiet and sheepish on the telephone. Lifetime...

Sound is quite good, despite what the other reviewers here have experienced. It's not going to give you the same sound that a surround sound system with a sub-woofer would give you, but it's pretty good for a low powered system. Set up of the set is quick and easy. After I made a few tweaks to the out of box set up it really looks great. Standard definition shows do look grainy, depending on how old they are. I notice that some older programs look worse than recent shows do. On the whole, this is a terrific set and the price is great.

This review is from: Vizio 47" Gallevia Full Hdtv 1080p (Electronics)
We've had this Vizio Gallevia 47" Plasma TV for 16 months having bought it from a big box store (S's C). Its been great until 2 days ago when the screen just shut off. No warning. There's power to the TV as the logo is yellow but it won't respond. Vizio don't want to know because its out of its one year warranty and went very quiet and sheepish on the telephone. Lifetime technical support - not in reality! The local repair shop will "do his best" but "its hard to get parts". "no-one is offering support to these new brands", "that's the gamble you take" and finally "we'll do the best we can". So my review if are you going to buy this TV take the money you save from a more reliable brand and buy an extended warranty at the same time.

4.0 out of 5 stars great buy for the money, July 18, 2007

My main complaint about this tv is the sound quality. There is no richness to the sound. It doesn't matter if you run everything through a surround sound system, but I have a 4 yr old who hasn't learned how to use 4 different remotes to turn everything on yet. To me, in my home, the picture on HD channels looks just as good as the more expensive TVs in the stores. I know I could see a difference in the store where they are side by side, but for $1500 different there is no negligible difference in my home. So far I am pleased with this purchase, but we'll see how I feel in 6 months.

this tv is nothing short of perfect. I've owned it for 4 months and still can't believe the picture. Was kinda worried about the big silver speaker strip on the bottom, but once I got it home, found that a couple of screws was all that held it together. Now, integrated into my home theater, it is a very classy all-black 47" frame hanging on my wall! Looking into another one for the bedroom!!! WELL WORTH TWICE THE PRICE!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Value ... but, October 24, 2007
Have had mine for about a month. I think it's great! Super picture, not so terrible on standard def. About the sound, mine sounds great, you wouldn't want to be anywhere near with the sound turned all the way up. Added a surround sound system and it's even better.

Now for the perplexing thing: The sound is apparently "delayed" in the unit. I have multiple tvs connected to my satellite system, and the audio in all the other tvs do not match up with the vizio. I have tried everything and can't make them match up.

Other than that, this TV rocks, and for much less than anything comparable. Got mine at Sam's Club for $14XX, fantastic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, August 8, 2007
Bought two of these for a cottage on the lake. One in a highly reflective area with a lot of light and it is great. HD is sharp with DirecTV HD package. Sound seems good. After doing a code search, was able to use the DirecTV remote to control the whole shebang. Awesome when I hook up my Dell laptop and use it as a second monitor. Great value. Highly recommend due to price and video quality. Would purchase again in a heart beat. A+++

I bought mine last August and have been very pleased with the picture. To be honest, I didn't know too much about Vizio before the purchase, so I didn't know what to expect. I have my sound run through my reciever and out my surround sound, so I don't use the TV's speakers. The picture is incredible, but the blacks aren't as good as some higher end TVs. Even though, this is a great buy and for the price, you won't come anywhere close to this TV. I use mine mainly for gaming and watching sports. A+ (for the price)

1.0 out of 5 stars Vizio LCD televisions are poorly made...!, July 18, 2007
By
Big box store (Cost..), had the 47" Vizio on sale.
They had several brand choices side-by-side. Of course the feeds were HD, and NO sound!
The Vizio was several hundred less, with an excellent HD picture- so I bought one, even though Consumer. Guid. gave Vizio a so-so rating.

WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!-
1. HD was good, but SD/analog/VCR was VERY grainy (NOT sharp)! Most of my cable channels are still analog, & I record LOTS on my 5 VCR's! Yea I know, VCR's are supposedly the 80's- lets see you record multi-channels..., on your DVD!

2. With the puny 10w sound on 100/MAX, it was only a little louder than a speaking voice (try it, in the store!). Vizio support was rude, and NO HELP! Finally told me to go buy a "home theatre" system, for louder sound. NOT!
The independent tech they "finally" sent out (as soon as 90 day return was up! Found no problem- just weak sound!), told me that he had replaced dozens of circuit boards on Vizio TV's!

3. This TV puts out "TONS" of HEAT! Great for winter, but AWFUL for summer!
~~~~~
After reading BAD reviews (Ghosting...) on other "over" 42" LCD TV's- It would seem that they are ALL having tech problems!?
I like the "NO REFLECTION" on LCD's (Plasma's are HORRIBLE!), so-
I returned it and bought a Sony 46" Bravia XBR2 1080p LCD HDTV- WOW is this GREAT (read my review, on tips...!)!
Note: Sharpness on my XBR2 (other cheaper Sony's- sharpness was flat...), is GREAT on Normal Screen mode! Sony KDL-46XBR2 46" Bravia XBR 1080p LCD HDTV
