Nice TV until you have issues,
By
This review is from: Vizio P42HDTV10A 42 Inch High Definition Widescreen Plasma TV with HDMI Input, P42HDTV - P42HDTV10A
Overall I was generally happy with the TV until it broke. It died with a pop and then wouldn't display anything. It was under warranty and so I began the process of trying to get it repaired. Their technical support and service is well awful at best and is totally unacceptable. After repeated calls they haven't yet resolved getting me even an appointment to get a service tech out to inspect the issue let alone order parts and fix it. Today I was told that they were looking for a tech and would receive a call 5-10 days from now to setup an appointment. I live in a major metro area in the US, so this simply isn't acceptable behavior for a vendor of consumer electorics if they offer on-site repairs. A quick survey of folks I work with has shown that other vendors offer same day set-up for appointments and most were within 4-7 days visited by a tech to have the repair done.
So if you have issues be warned that you may have trouble getting them resolved beyond the simple stuff.

I bought this tv on June 9th and had it delivered on the 11th. At first I thought this tv was a great bargain becauase of the price. And then eventutally the cost of the tv begins to make sense. Now for one thing, this tv is defintely very cheap and a great bargain and very affordable for those of you wanting not to spend so much on a plasma. However, I experienced burn-in problems within five days of using this tv and I hardly even used it. I played my xbox 360 for abt an hr & half n it had several images burnt into the screen. BUT, if youve done ur research on plasmas then u know that most plasmas if not all of them have this issue. Also, I have time warner cable and I used an HDMI cable to connect the reciever to the tv. It worked fine but then when i changed channels on the reciever, the tv would completely flip out n show static n make a loud buzzing sound. I would have turn it off n on for it to stop, but it did this again n again. I could've exchanged the reciever with time warner or maybe even bought a new HDMI cable, but both of these worked GREAT with my previous LCD HDTV (Olevia 32"). And then the burn-in issue emerged in a matter of days so i just returned it and now im looking at sony's and samsung's.
So, All in all, I would recommend this tv simply because of the cost, but just beware!!! And if you plan on playing games on it...DONT BUY IT! So good luck to those of you who do end up buying this. :)

Vizio - stay clear - i had two die,

In Dec. of 2004 I bought the Vizio P42HD from Sams club. Made a ton of noise when plugged in then in a week the picture went. After a back and forth I returned it to sams and they sent me another one.
It was okay - but still made a buzzing noise that was louder then it should have been. After over a year (end of warranty) I started getting more and more white dots on the screen, and just yesterday (about 2.5 years after purchase) the screen is about to completely die again. Called customer service and they said my warranty is done and i need to take it to a technician who needs to then order the parts from Vizio all of which I will pay for. Under 3 years in this age of technology for a TV is a disgrace! There is no excuse for this and although I will be pushing customer service I would be surprised if it gets anywhere.

After having this TV for only 3 months, I started to expierence burn-ins and contrast issues. When I contacted their support and was trying to explain to them what the issue was, all they heard was burn-in and immediately said it wasn't covered by warranty. They told me that the only way I could get these burn-ins, is if I left the TV turned on and an image was static on the screen for hours. I advised them that this wasn't my first plasma and I knew not to leave the TV on and they stated that I was lying. The TV was suppose to have a one year manufacture's warranty which wasn't honored.
BUYER BEWARE!!!!! It was a great TV until it broke. But buying this TV is a big chance considering how aweful their support is.

The Vizio Plasma HDTV died 5 months after expiration of the 1 year warranty. The Vizio shutdowned on it own a few times and then after that it won't turn on anymore, nothing at all. No help from Vizio either on a way to get it repair myself. Vizio does not appear to design and manufacture a very reliable product, watch out.

DO NOT buy a VIZIO!,

This review is from: Vizio P42HDTV10A 42 Inch High Definition Widescreen Plasma TV with HDMI Input, P42HDTV - P42HDTV10A
My Vizio P42HD has developed a 1 inch vertical black line running through the center of the screen. I contacted Vizio tech support and got the the typical run around, getting transferred around, staying on hold for nearly an hour, and finally getting transferred to a voicemail. Left a message and got a call back a few hours later. I was told that I have a fatal failure in the plasma display, and because it is past the warranty period, my TV is now unrepairable junk. They will not stand behind the product, so I spent nearly $2000 for a junk plasma that lasted two years. Not much of a bargain, eh? Like many other reviews, this is a warning to not waste your money on a Vizio. There is a reason it is so inexpensive. Do yourself a favor and buy a better known brand. The quality and customer service will be much better. You will save a lot of money, time and frustration in the long run.

Great picture and we thought was a great TV until immediately after the warranty expired, the TV expired. The repair man offered to fix it for $400+ ....what a joke. Better yet, contact technical support...or should I say technical 'referral service' where they say 'it's not under warranty, contact authorized repair shop'. Then I visit my grandparents who watch TV all day for the past 20 years and their Montgomery Ward console TV is still working..What the ?!

Great Plasma - 3 years and counting!,
This review is from: Vizio P42HDTV10A 42 Inch High Definition Widescreen Plasma TV with HDMI Input, P42HDTV - P42HDTV10A
I bought this Plasma 3 years ago for bargain price and I still can't believe how great this TV is. Actually I bought recently Panasonic Vera 42" and the quality and response is not that great like with Vizio. I saw these bad reviews and I've decided to add my comment since tv served me great for the last 3 years with no problems whatsoever (even it survived 3000 miles journey with nasty moving company so go figure). Really one good piece of picture.

Plugged it in and turned it on to a loud buzzing noise coming from, what looked like, the heat-sink. Just got home from returning it, i'm going to save up and most likely get a samsung. good luck all
