This television was a refurb but what a deal! It is absolutely beautiful and the picture is great. The sound is typical for tvs but no problem; there are enough inputs for sound including digital optical and hdmi to take care of it all! Love it!

Almost wrote off tv -- needs a better troubleshooting guide or FAQ,

I would rate the tv with four or five stars, but I almost wrote off my tv and was prepared to send it off to the trash because the the only thing I was getting from the tv suddenly after 32 months was a loud bass static sound for about 10 seconds, no display from any source, and then just the audio. There were other reviews around the Internet about similar problems (all with no picture display at all), but no resolution. Vizio's manual/user guide and website proved useless.I noticed on my Costco receipt that they have free technical support for televisions, so I gave them a try, and they got my tv working again. My entire call, including the initial voice prompts and wait time for a service agent, lasted just eight minutes. How's that for service and assistance! So, what did they do? They told me to unplug the tv from the power source (including from the surge protector), then to hold down the power button on the tv. The guy timed me, so I don't know exactly how long, but it was maybe 30 seconds or so. Then I let it go, plugged the tv back in, and turned the tv on. My display worked! He said that action discharges the static. I don't know if I just got lucky, but it worked and hopefully the tv will last at least a couple years longer.

Best TV for the price, Period,

I always buy Vizio because their quality is always top notch, and the price is always better than Sony, Toshiba, and other Japanese makers. The TV looks great even when you hook it up to basic cable (quality is almost HD like). Smooth motion is cool but not for everyone and can be turned off. The remote is extremely simple and minimalistic, and soon realized that it's better that way. Picture quality is amazing, don't second guess it. However, the sound could be a little better, but you can always get speakers for that. 42 inches for under $600, GREAT DEAL.

Vizio hdtv's have no protective screens and any hard contact even if slight will damage your tv beyond repair. I learned this the hard way after only having my tv for two months and inadvertently bumping the screen lightly which I thought at the time was of little consequence only to find it that the tv was damaged beyond reasonable repair. Do yourself a favor and get a Sony or a Toshiba and save yourself a major disappointment.
