Great monitor - as long as you are aware of it's shortfalls, August 7, 2009
This review is from: Vizio VMM26L 26" Class LCD Monitor (Electronics)
I've had the monitor for a week now and am extremely happy with it. I did a lot of research before getting it at [...]. I was willing to risk it due to their return policy.
The feature list of the monitor is impressive and unmatched by anything out there. I also find that all the features work as advertised and have not been disappointed by any.
The ones that made me pick this monitor are:
- large screen (obviously)
- 16:10 screen ratio, instead of the 16:9 that is more commonly sold as widescreen. If you only watch DVDs, then maybe 16:9 works for you, but for any other computer application 16:10 gives a much better real estate.
- high resolution 1920:1200
- adjustable height!! there are very few monitors out there that offer that, and none even close in price. if you look at the 22" and 24" monitors they end up standing loo low ergonomically speaking and will make you hunch over, unless you raise them somehow. This is especially true for widescreens that tend to have a height comparable to a 17" lcd.
- built in USB hub (maybe i'll use it some day :)
- VGA, HDMI and DVI inputs (with ALL CABLES INCLUDED!!)
- sleek, modern, high-end look (for example the touch controls that disappear when not in use)
I was prepared for the following shortcomings from reading other reviews:
1. glossy, reflective screen
2. bluish color tint of the image that is difficult or even impossible to correct
I found #1 to be completely unfounded! While the screen is glossy and thus more reflective than the matte LCD screens, I compared it to about 5 other glossy monitors and 2 other laptops in the store and it was not any more reflective then those. Furthermore, in day to day use (I mean 12-14 hours a day) I don't notice it at all. In theory, if I watched movies with a lot of dark area in them, it might be noticeable, but again, it is not different than the other monitors on the market.
The real issue is #2. The blue tint is quite noticeable when you have a white window in front of you. However, I was able to correct a lot of it using the video card Gamma controls and I don't notice it anymore.
I was ready to return the monitor of these 2 issues proved to be problematic, but I am definitely keeping it. I know I would never be able to find a monitor this nice (and big) in this price range, and the blue tint issue is easy to accept.
A couple of more comments:
- tested the built in speakers, I did not notice anything worth noting compared to other built-ins. Note that if you connect with HDMI, you can get your sound that way, without connecting an audio cable. I have a nice speaker system, so I don;t plan on using them.
- the manual is useless, it does not describe the settings, and some of them are not obvious (acronyms). nevertheless, if you need a manual to set up a monitor, you have bigger problems mate
- the build quality seems very nice, everything is solid and stable.
- make sure you have desk space, especially if you buy two - I mean this thing is the same screen size as my old TV!
I highly recommend it.

Definitely a wise choice, January 7, 2010
This review is from: Vizio VMM26L 26" Class LCD Monitor (Electronics)
Its definitely a great monitor, so great I wish I could have bought it new. Unfortunately not everyone has $600 to invest in on a new monitor, so I went with the next best thing, refurbished. It just came in a few days ago, and I have to say this thing is a monster. Strong heavy steel base, easy to assemble, adjustable height, touch settings, this thing is great. Sadly, After getting it all setup I found the reason why "refurbished" should never be a first choice. There are quite a few tiny specs on the screen where you think you can wipe it off, but really it's under the glass. I think it might be dust or something, probably the reason it was returned. Now me on the other hand, I'm a real picky person when it comes to clarity, but this thing is so nice (especially for only $240) I'm just going to learn to deal with it. You can only really tell when it has a white background anyway and if you're right up close to it, so it's okay. Another thing, it says on the site here it's "1900x1200" but it's actually "1920x1200", just in case someone was confused. Anyway good luck making your purchase, I highly recommend this monitor, I couldn't have got a better deal.
