Great monitor - as long as you are aware of it's shortfalls,
By Lubo (Arlington, VA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Vizio VMM26L 26" Class LCD Monitor (Electronics)
I've had the monitor for a week now and am extremely happy with it. I did a lot of research before getting it at [...]. I was willing to risk it due to their return policy. The feature list of the monitor is impressive and unmatched by anything out there. I also find that all the features work as advertised and have not been disappointed by any. The ones that made me pick this monitor are: - large screen (obviously) - 16:10 screen ratio, instead of the 16:9 that is more commonly sold as widescreen. If you only watch DVDs, then maybe 16:9 works for you, but for any other computer application 16:10 gives a much better real estate. - high resolution 1920:1200 - adjustable height!! there are very few monitors out there that offer that, and none even close in price. if you look at the 22" and 24" monitors they end up standing loo low ergonomically speaking and will make you hunch over, unless you raise them somehow. This is especially true for widescreens that tend to have a height comparable to a 17" lcd. - built in USB hub (maybe i'll use it some day :) - VGA, HDMI and DVI inputs (with ALL CABLES INCLUDED!!) - sleek, modern, high-end look (for example the touch controls that disappear when not in use) I was prepared for the following shortcomings from reading other reviews: 1. glossy, reflective screen 2. bluish color tint of the image that is difficult or even impossible to correct I found #1 to be completely unfounded! While the screen is glossy and thus more reflective than the matte LCD screens, I compared it to about 5 other glossy monitors and 2 other laptops in the store and it was not any more reflective then those. Furthermore, in day to day use (I mean 12-14 hours a day) I don't notice it at all. In theory, if I watched movies with a lot of dark area in them, it might be noticeable, but again, it is not different than the other monitors on the market. The real issue is #2. The blue tint is quite noticeable when you have a white window in front of you. However, I was able to correct a lot of it using the video card Gamma controls and I don't notice it anymore. I was ready to return the monitor of these 2 issues proved to be problematic, but I am definitely keeping it. I know I would never be able to find a monitor this nice (and big) in this price range, and the blue tint issue is easy to accept. A couple of more comments: - tested the built in speakers, I did not notice anything worth noting compared to other built-ins. Note that if you connect with HDMI, you can get your sound that way, without connecting an audio cable. I have a nice speaker system, so I don;t plan on using them. - the manual is useless, it does not describe the settings, and some of them are not obvious (acronyms). nevertheless, if you need a manual to set up a monitor, you have bigger problems mate - the build quality seems very nice, everything is solid and stable. - make sure you have desk space, especially if you buy two - I mean this thing is the same screen size as my old TV! I highly recommend it.

Unvbelievable value,

This monitor is loaded with a USB hub, 2 HDMI ports, a DVI, and VGA port. The speakers are a bit tinny, but serviceable. It cost half of what a 24 inch Dell with comparable features cost. I've seen no dead pixels and image quality and build are first rate. This monitor is a spectacular value for the money and I recommend it.

Definitely a wise choice,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Vizio VMM26L 26" Class LCD Monitor (Electronics)
Its definitely a great monitor, so great I wish I could have bought it new. Unfortunately not everyone has $600 to invest in on a new monitor, so I went with the next best thing, refurbished. It just came in a few days ago, and I have to say this thing is a monster. Strong heavy steel base, easy to assemble, adjustable height, touch settings, this thing is great. Sadly, After getting it all setup I found the reason why "refurbished" should never be a first choice. There are quite a few tiny specs on the screen where you think you can wipe it off, but really it's under the glass. I think it might be dust or something, probably the reason it was returned. Now me on the other hand, I'm a real picky person when it comes to clarity, but this thing is so nice (especially for only $240) I'm just going to learn to deal with it. You can only really tell when it has a white background anyway and if you're right up close to it, so it's okay. Another thing, it says on the site here it's "1900x1200" but it's actually "1920x1200", just in case someone was confused. Anyway good luck making your purchase, I highly recommend this monitor, I couldn't have got a better deal.

Great addition for our Mac Book Pro,
By
This review is from: Vizio VMM26L 26" Class LCD Monitor (Electronics)
Bought this for a fixed monitor to be used with our MBP. Excellent monitor - really like the height adjustment feature and the multitude of input options - I used the DVI cable that was included. Sound is pretty good also. Highly recommend for use with a mac - the aesthetics match our MBP and the graphics and resolution are very good too. Compared with the price of adding a 24" Apple display, less than half the cost. Paid $299.00 at a big box store; a great price and good value for the money.

short lived!,
This review is from: Vizio VMM26L 26" Class LCD Monitor (Electronics)
Got two of these from Costo about 9 months ago in sept. 2009. Both burned out April 2010 and May 2010. Will not get another one due to poor life span! It is very unusual both of my monitors only lasted about 9 months! It has to be poor quality.I do like the USB, speakers, and glass screen. I could not find another monitor this size w/ USB & speakers. But not worth the poor quality. Now I got the HP 2709m. works great but more expensive. But I am still looking for a 2nd montor for my duel monitor computer. May end up getting the HP 25".

Good start, bad end!,
This review is from: Vizio VMM26L 26" Class LCD Monitor (Electronics)
I really liked this monitor when I bought. The screen size, color, everything. Then it happened. I have only owned the monitor for a little over 7 months. I turned on my computer and the monitor came on for 2 seconds and then went black. The monitor was still on and the computer was running but there was no picture. Restared same thing. Unplugged the monitor for 45 min. Same thing. Put the monitor on a different computer - same thing. Put my old monitor back on my computer - no problems. Fortunately it is still under warranty. Unfortunately I have to pay to ship it back for repairs. I should have spent my money on a better brand.

Great monitor for computer or video games,
By Dave (SJ, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Vizio VMM26L 26" Class LCD Monitor (Electronics)
This monitor has fantastic sound quality for a monitor of this size. I recently bought (and returned) a Samsung 24" computer monitor and it's no contest--the Samsung 2494HM speakers are thin and tinny--in fact they don't play as loudly as my Toshiba Laptop speakers)Video quality of the Vizio is excellent but not QUITE as bright as some other monitors. I have no issues with reflection in the location I keep the Vizio and the glass gives better contrast than a matte finish screen. On thing I'm not totally happy with is that photos and videos aren't displayed with a wide enough gamut to prevent obvious banding, regardless of how I've tried to mitigate the issue with custom settings for contrast and brightness. Overall, I'm still VERY, VERY happy with this monitor. NO dead pixels. Minor nit: Color shifts when you move your head a bit. Moving to the right or left of center (less than 6", with head about 16" from screen) causes whites to shift towards red. I don't particularly like the touch controls on the black bezel. The first time you use them after cleaning the unit, results in unsightly smudges and the controls have a delay that makes rapid choosing of a function a bit annoying. Fast response display makes playing fast-paced video games a pleasure. Same holds true for scrolling pages--no distracting smearing. The height-adjustable base is awesome--it doesn't tilt, but the height adjustment is a great feature which works flawlessly. I love having the USB hub feature built into this monitor. Something the Sammy doesn't have.

Perfect iMac companion,
By
This review is from: Vizio VMM26L 26" Class LCD Monitor (Electronics)
I have a 24 inch imac and have been wanting a second monitor. If you're used to two monitors, one monitor, no matter how big, just doesn't do it. Unfortunately the only monitor that looked like it belonged was the HD monitor that Apple says. It's great, but way too expensive ($899 new $599 refurbished) There was no way I could justify that. I came across this monitor for $299. It is perfect. The size and the finish make it the perfect companion. Once it's set up correctly, the color and detail are quite consistent with the imac. I strongly recommend this monitor!

The next best thing to an Apple Cinema Display,
This review is from: Vizio VMM26L 26" Class LCD Monitor (Electronics)
This is quite simply the best display for the money available today. I've used several, mostly Samsung displays, on my Macbook and have enjoyed them - until I got this baby and realized what a display on a Mac should really look like. This is quite simply the most beautiful display you can get for the money sans Cinema Display. The glass display and quality is unparalleled... Don't hesitate. DO NOT buy it from here though... unfortunately, the price on Amazon and other places I've seen it is absurd. This puppy is only $299 at the big box store. I've owned this for, about 6 months now I think, and it has worked flawlessly. I've recommend it to every Mac owner I know and they have all been equally happy with it. Get it - you won't be sorry!! (unless you pay the asking price here, I mean WTF Amazon??) ...oh, and the speakers are total CRAP, but who cares?

Tragically flawed,
By
This review is from: Vizio VMM26L 26" Class LCD Monitor (Electronics)
As others have noted in separate reviews, the monitor seems too good to be true, and it is. After 15 months of use, mine exhibited the previously noted 2-3 seconds of backlight coming on, then going off and staying off. So either the backlight and / or the backlight control circuitry is bad.Vizio has discontinued this product. Only a one year warranty so except for American Express warranty I'd be out of luck. ITI, a Vizio authorized repair service, will not touch this product. In fact, I can find no one who will even try to repair it except HDRepair, and they require it to be shipped to them. Bad news all the way around. I would not buy this monitor new (you won't find new ones anyway) and I wouldn't touch a refurbished one either. UPDATE 4 FEB 2012 Had the unit repaired by HDRepair, had to send it to Florida (I'm in California!) in a shipper they sent me, at my cost. Had to front the repair cost too. They replaced a capacitor in the power supply, and it's been a good monitor ever since. I contributed to its original problem, in that I was running Magic Jack which was keeping the monitor backlight on all the time. Repair was $190 or so, Amex paid off on warranty almost immediately, I processed the repair but they just went ahead and refunded my entire monitor cost. I bought a Samsung for use during the repair, so now I essentially am in the position of having a backup Samsung 24" monitor that cost me $190 - I use the Vizio but killed the magic jack to monitor goes to sleep as it should - but I still have to guard against any video players (e.g. veetle.com) that kill the screen saver function when they're run. So I'll move this up to two stars from one. |
