4.0 out of 5 stars Satan and Darkness...... With Talent!!, January 3, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Vobiscum Satanas (Audio CD)
Dark Funeral haven't changed very much at all since the fateful departure of Blackmoon. They are still a giant tornado. A ripping whirlwind of hatred towards Christianity, tearing through at unbelievable speed. Picture "Secrets of the Black Arts" and add a little more talent, and even a hint of melody to the music, and this is what you've got. The best thing about this recording, versus their previous effort, is that you can actually tell the difference between the different songs. As far as the music is concerned, they execute it very well, and in my opinion, are the most brutal blackmetal band coming from Scandinavia (sorry to all you Marduk fans!), and only surpassed by North America's Sacrimentary Abolishment. The production is exceptionally clean, allowing you to hear every blistering blast-beat and shrill growl coming from Lord Ahriman. The classic "Satan-Satan" approach has been taken again by these fiends, yet pulled off in a way that isn't as redundant as bands like War and older Deicide. This album is definately worth a listen.

4.0 out of 5 stars DARK FUNERAL -, October 16, 2000
This review is from: Vobiscum Satanas (Audio CD)
This is Dark Funeral's 2nd full length and it's a killer one! 8 tracks in total, a running time of 35 mins.. Is this really worth getting? Yeah, why not... dark Funeral is not the most hateful band in the world, but they still manage to release some pure christraping black metal with superior production. This is not better than ''Secrets of the black arts'', but it's still dark and violent. The vocals could have been a bit better, though, but Caligula still manages to spew forth some sickened vocals of pure blasphemy! Lord Ahriman as always delivers his hellish guitar riffing, and the drums are killer! Fans of Setherial, Triumphator, Funeral Mist, Infernal, will definitely like this!

4.0 out of 5 stars DARK FUNERAL, What do you expect?, January 4, 2000
By
LORD BITTERFROST (East Norwich, NY USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Vobiscum Satanas (Audio CD)
The verdicts are in from multiple sources that "Vobiscum Sathanas" is a mere replica of the previous DARK FUNERAL cd. In a way, I must agree that there certainly exists a strong similarity between the second and third albums, however, this is certainly not a short coming as many have suggested. The band has a purpose. They have blatantly stated that they strive to create the most evil music possible and they possess a particular formula to achieve this end. Thus, the old maxim, "if it ain't broke, dont' fix it", applies well to DARK FUNERAL's approach to "Vobiscum Sathanas". Therefore, the listener should encounter no surprises with this record, just more of that trademark DARK FUNERAL total onslaught of apocalyptic devastation with minor improvements since their previous album of blistering Swedish black metal.
