Good selection of words and learning aids are very good, but... there are a number of errors. For example "edification" is a noun, but is defined as "enlighten" which is a verb. "Gambit" is defined as a verb; it is a noun. "Malcontent" is defined as a adjective; it is a noun. These examples are from only the first 20% of the book; there are lots more. If you know these words already, you might not notice these things, but if you are trying to learn them... so beware. It is actually a good exercise to try to catch these inconsistencies because SAT/ACT exams also test usage, not just meaning. On another note, it would be nice if the book more consistently listed and explicitly distinguished between primary and secondary meanings, since those tests often try to trick students with secondaries. Again, a good book that just needs a more thorough edit.

My 11-year-old homeschooled daughter loved these books! She learned, and more amazingly, retained so many of these words over the past year and a half since going through the books. This system makes it so fun and easy to increase vocabulary. I highly recommend these books.

The words in this one are a bit more difficult but still a great book. I would recommend starting with book #1 then moving on to this one...

This is by far the most fun way we have found to learn vocabulary. The humor is very effective. Our daughter, who hasn't been much of a reader, has really picked up many of these words and uses them in her everyday speech. Love this book series!

My kids enjoy this method of learning vocabulary words. They are so interested in the pictures, they read the whole page and instantly learn a new word. Anything that is fun and teaches my kids something is worth the time and money to me.

This is a great book for high-schoolers learning new vocabulary words. The words are important & useful, and are presented in a fun and entertaining way!

BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT! If you have a child coming up on SAT's or even in middle or elementary school, this is the best book out there! It was recommended to us by a reading specialist. I love to read the book just to see if I can recall words. Love IT so BUY IT!

Best vocab book ever! Easy to use and understand. After a year, I still do recall the words and pictures =D I'm glad I bought this book. Other vocab books are only words, and definition, very much like a dictionary...

Great book for learning new vocabulary! It's fun to read and learn using this book. My boys love them (I bought both) and they have even used the newly learned words in everyday conversations!

Purchased this item with another item of flash cards in an effort to introduce my daughter to the test and preparation. The cartoon format makes it more fun than work for her and I believe she is getting a great deal from it.
