5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource for building vocabulary!
This is a comprehensive vocabulary book that covers interesting lists [capitonyms, SAT vocab, oxymorons etc], roots, word origins, subjects [scientific roots, emotions, sports etc], writing, foreign words [exonyms], spelling, abbr, phonics, measurement & geography, methods, affixes & roots, & homophones. I would recommend using this book together with the Writing...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but could be better
This is the only "Book of Lists" I have purchased. I was very pleased with the book as containing Vocabulary arranged in a logical and usable fashion. However, just imagine how great this book (and perhaps the others in the series) would be if it included tests that teachers could use. A simple black-line test for each section would make this the most useful book for...

4.0 out of 5 stars direction in the vocabulary classroom, June 26, 2007
This review is from: The Vocabulary Teacher's Book of Lists (J-B Ed: Book of Lists) (Paperback)
I found this book to be very helpful. It gave me great lists of prefixes, suffixes, latin and greek roots, etc. It also separated these into subject areas. It is a very good reference tool and guide for me in the classroom.

My students, a class of 25 Korean students learning English after already having completed university degrees overseas, rate this product very high for its compact, precise presentation of information that is not often found in texts. Bravo!

5.0 out of 5 stars A very useful resource for teachers of all levels, June 30, 2008

This review is from: The Vocabulary Teacher's Book of Lists (J-B Ed: Book of Lists) (Paperback)
This book provided me with so much information, most of which I found useful in planning and teaching a vocabulary improvement class in a community college. It has material that an English or reading teacher can use in elementary, middle or high school. I especially liked the mini-dictionary of roots, prefixes and suffixes, but I found that many of the lists were very helpful. If you teach English or Language Arts, this is a good reference book for both your classroom and for you own information.

However, just imagine how great this book (and perhaps the others in the series) would be if it included tests that teachers could use. A simple black-line test for each section would make this the most useful book for Vocabulary ever, and the publisher probably couldn't print enough. Who is going to spend the time to write a test for each of these? I'd purchase the test companion to this book immediately!
