As a test prep tutor who specializes in exams which test vocubulary knowledge - the SAT, SSAT, ISEE, SHSAT and others - I am always on the lookout for helpful vocabulary-building tools. This series, while not particularly exciting, is excellent; I use the full set. Students in lower grades can start from the lower levels and work their way up, while high school students generally find Levels G-H challenging. Each word list is accompanied by a good variety of review and reinforcement drills: sentence completions, mix-n-match, passage readings, etc.

Since this series is often used in schools, my luckier students get their test prep and school vocabulary homework done simultaneously!

I have used this vocab workshop series for years and it is great. One caution however is that there is an "enhanced edition" and a regular edition. My teacher wants us to use the regular edition so I have to search elsewhere as Amazon only carried the 'enhanced' and made no mention of the various editions in their description. I already wrote in the wrong version so am out $10.00. I also had trouble matching ISBN numbers on Amazon.

EXCELLENT word choices.
SUPERB exercises.

Plenty of exercises in this small book!
I think it covers
reading comp, analogy, synonyms, antonym and sentence comp.
It prepares students for SSAT, ISEE, PSAT & SAT :)
( just make sure you do all 8 books!)
So much clearer and effective than
worldly wise or Vocabulary Enrichment by great source.

I love these books. They really help kids grow in vocabulary. I have bought the earlier editions for my son who is in 1 st grade. My daughter started these in school in 5 th grade. One word of caution. If you buy these used, they may he partially completed. I have purchased lots of workbooks from amazon and most have been slightly used or what the seller refers to as minimal use. But I have received four books recently that we're almost fully completed. I contacted the sellers and they have all been refunded except one, which I just notifies yesterday.

This vocabulary series is the best one I have found that illustrates how the word is most often used. The vocabulary list is also well thought out; the words are actually in frequent use. You can't go wrong buying this series.

This is a widely used series to help students build their vocabularies by having them use the word in a variety of contexts helping the meanings to stick and integrate the word into their usage. This happens to be the teacher edition/answer key.

I feel smartur already!

But in all reality this is an excellent book if you find it a necessity to have an expanded vocabulary. This delightful book includes practice problems to assist you in learning the correct usages, synonyms and antonyms of a myriad of words commonly used in high-level literature.
