I am new to karaoke. I wanted to get something for the kids so they could sing with song tracks. (especially High School Musical tracks). I read many reviews on karaoke players. It seems the reviews on all-in-one players are very mixed. These players come with a speaker and small TV. The problem seems to be that they dont hold up well. If the DVD player goes on the fritz, the whole thing is now worthless.
So I decided to go with the component idea. First I got the Karaoke player. I chose the Vocopro DKP-10G. It came with two very nice microphones. Then add a small LCD screen (cheap on Ebay) or connect it to home TV. I hooked the Vocopro up through my stereo receiver (aux port) and ran the video thru my home TV rather than add a cheap LCD screen. This player is great fun. One thing about the Vocopro that I liked was the abitity to adjust the key of the music to match your own voice key.

One thing threw me off though until I read further into the straightforward manual. You adjust the mic level on the Vocopro player. You adjust the sound of the karaoke background music through the remote. When I first hooked up the player, I didnt understand this and the mic volume wasnt loud enough compared to the music track even when the mic knob was turned to full. When I adjusted the playback volume down thru the remote and turned up the volume on the stereo, my voice thru the microphone came thru much better.
So for $100 for the vocopro Dkp-10G you get the player and two mics. Even if you didnt hook it up through your home stereo, you could just add some powered speakers (like computer speakers) add an adapter if they dont have RCA jacks, add a 5 inch LCD monitor (Ebay), and you have everything you need. And if something breaks you just replace the broken part. Also, VOCOPRO has USA repair facilities. The only thing missing is a good singing voice.

This is my second VocoPro player. The first player had some microphone issues but was a fantastic DVD player and Karaoke player. This new player is very easy to use and really enjoy the one touch song buttons on the front which is like a professional model. Sound and video quality is awesome. I highly recommend this player.

I have used my Kareoke machine to practice singing to keep my voice exercised. The disc tray doesn't always open, and it is a fight of open/close until it finally decides to work, once. Don't hold your breath expecting it to work again without a fight.
