Editorial Reviews

2012 release from this Hip Hop duo consisting of super producer The Alchemist and West Coast rapper Oh No. Vodka & Ayahausca is the follow-up to their gritty opus Gutter Water. With both Al and Oh making beats and holding down the mic, their new record weaves a psychedelic, head-nodding, substance-laden tale. The top notch collabs blend right in to the album from beginning to end and will have you tripping like a jungle shaman's brew. The album features appearances from Kool G Rap, Roc Marciano, Prodigy, Evidence, and Roc C.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Tops Gutter Water March 4, 2012
Format:MP3 Music
V & A is easily going to be one of the best underground albums of 2012. ALC's and Oh No's unique ability to mirror each other on the production boards and create hip-hop straight from the sewers is unmatchable. Trashy, drugged-up, grimy production pairs with rhymes sounding like someone was rapping on an overdose while having an enlightening epiphany. Gangrene has released two albums in the past two years, and at this pace, they are sure to recognized as one of the most consistent and hardworking groups in the game.

V&A has not left my cd player since its release. It made me pull out Gutter Water again for even more listening pleasure. Cop this disc or forever be cheated out of some of the dopest hip-hop you will hear. CANNOT WAIT to hear more from these guys.

4.0 out of 5 stars RapConQueso.com Review February 3, 2012
Format:Audio CD
Full review at RapConQueso but here is an excerpt

Fresh off the sleeper hit that was the Greneberg EP with Roc Marciano, Alchemist and Oh No treat listeners to the psychedelic sounds of Vodka & Ayahuasca. The mystic concoction serves as the inspiration and constant reference point for the album. Similar to Gutter Water, the production here is excellent. This time it is more consistent and the album has a more collective sound. The Alchemist and Oh make it sound as if they have been working together for years. Songs like "Vodka & Ayahuasca" and "Gladiator Music" best display the guitar heavy stylings of the album. The Psychedelic aesthetic sets this project apart from Gutter Waters and makes it a stronger disc.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vodka & Ayahuasca May 2, 2013

Rugged and raw, real hip hop. Those sounds are so crazy it hurts my head even to come up with this genius sampling and braggadocio type of rhymes.

5.0 out of 5 stars a must have for music fans. October 18, 2012
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
This album is better than good, instead it is a great piece of work. The sounds these guys used were unlike anything on music shelves at this time to my knowledge. Oh no produced maybe 65-70% of this album and trust me that was not a downfall of this album at all. For a great trippy listen, good lyrics, outstanding scores, and on point guest features. Make this your choice from a happy consumer!

4.0 out of 5 stars Didn't need drugs to bump this September 13, 2012
Format:Audio CD
The main draw here are the beats which should be expected with The Alchemist and Oh No being your main lyricists. The beats are cool on here with some Psych Rock Influences (or straight jacking like on the title track) along side of crisp, knocking beats. My favorite beats are Gladiator Music and Dump truck but there isn't a weak beat throughout. As far as as the rapping, I thought Oh No held his own pretty well where Alchemist entertained me with how serious he was dropping some of his lines. They were out-shined by the features, but that's expected with Kool G Rap, Roc Marciano, and Prodigy (sounding better than I have heard him recently) Some may complain about the skits, but they fit the theme of the album. The only track I didn't like was Liver For Sale. Very pleased overall
