Product Description

The Defender is a beautiful, air tight plate steel wood burning stove with nickel-pewter trim that accents a charcoal black finish. A heavy cast iron door with air washed ceramic glass allows a magnificent view of the burning fire that will enhance any hearth setting. Here's how it works: The primary air inlet at the front of the stove ignites the wood upon start up. Once burning, the secondary air inlet at the rear of the firebox feeds air to the top of the stove through three (3) ignition tubes directly above the wood. The result is that you have ignition, or fire, at the bottom and at the top of the woodstove which, in effect, consumes the wood. This is a very efficient method of getting the most energy possible out of the wood that you are burning. The Defender meets EPA requirements for Certified wood burning appliances as well as meeting State of Washington regulations for low emissions at 4.22 grams/hour. Over 75-Percent efficient, with a BTU rating of 68,000.

Bought this from Menards much less expensive than here. Was disappointed with how small the firebox was. However when it came time to use it I was very impressed. When its 20 degrees outside it heats my 1600 square foot home easy. It doesnt use a lot of wood. It burns the wood to powder. Very easy to get fire going, and maintain. Overall very impressed with this little stove.

Only used for a few days but stays lit, heats effectively, seemed to heat most of my 1200 sq ft home. Would recommend to someone looking for a good cheap wood stove!

Bought this stove at Menards for a much less expensive price. On 1/30/14 they are listed for 300 dollars! I think I paid a little more 2 months ago.

Very easy to install with 2 people handling it, we took out the fire brick and took the door off to move it around, much easier to deal with.

One thing to keep in mind if you are used to the old style wood stoves: This is an airtight stove, you need to get the box hot in order for it to work correctly. That means keeping the door ajar and the vent open to burn a very hot kindling fire with small (2" max.) logs first, once that burns down almost all the way you can shut the door and use the vent mechanism (move to the left) to then burn at it's best efficiency. Once there is a bed of coals, you can burn full size logs all night long and watch as the blue/purple flames keep your home toasty warm.

This stove has about the largest view window for a small stove that I've ever seen and is one of the reasons I jumped on it. I wanted this to be the focal point of our living room. I have a 30 foot cathedral ceiling with an open loft situation which it heats quite well with no problems. Between the spray insulation in the roof and this stove, I don't think I'll ever have a problem keeping warm in the winter.

Another nice feature that my other airtight does not have is the ash hole in the bottom with an ash pan. Makes clean out very easy, I just use a large putty knife to clean it out well, scoop all the ashes into the pan and carry it outside. No more ash dust around the room!

I'd highly recommend this stove to anyone who wants high-efficiency heat from wood in their home. Five stars!

I have wanted a wood stove for supplemental heat for some time but I was on a tight budget. I picked this unit up for $459 at Tractor Supply. It was fairly easy to install. It is a little tricky to light compared to traditional stoves but once you get the hang of it there is no problem. It burns a beautiful slow flame and puts out a ton of heat. I have found the blower to be weak and fairly ineffective. It is also quite noisy. This stove is so efficient that I really don't need it so it is not really a problem but enough to drop from 5 to 4 stars. Great value for the money and will save you a ton on electricity or fossil fuel.
