Who is Morten Harket?,
This review is from: Vogts Villa (Audio CD)
This album has some bluesy, American-tumbleweed pathos at some of its best. I felt like I was listening to a Chris Isaak album in Norwegian!
It's almost as if this guy went on an extended tour of the U.S., along Route 66, and like...got it! But did he sell it to the experts on "Bluesy, American-tumbleweed pathos?" Nope! He exported it to his native people who probably loved it! The hardest thing to get your mind around with this album is that this is the same high-pompadour, ultra-belting, syth-pop vocal god from the '80's who cranked out "Take on me" along with many others, because it is sooo not that! It sounds more like the latest primordial release from Nickel Creek or something. This album has lots of jumbo folk guitars, mandolin (Morty's even seen twiddling one in the insert), harmonica, twangy-sounding Fenders and Gibsons,...the list goes on. Sure, it sounds like he's singing backwards English, but forget that, this dude has got the blues...not "The Blue Sky." Trippy!

If you are expecting something like take on me, you are in the wrong direction. This is a solo project from a-ha's vocalist in its original language (This guys are from Normay). I don't understand not even a single word, but the music sounds very mature, so the voice of Harket. It's delightful to the ear. Buy it.

An excellent recording by a true vocal talent,

I've been trying to track this CD down for some time, as I'm a huge Morten Harket fan from way back. I've followed his career, and that of his a-ha bandmates, since the Eighties, and I've always been extremely fond of Harket's voice. "Vogts Villa" is a departure from Harket's English-language recordings, and that may deter some listeners, but don't let it. It doesn't matter if you cannot understand the lyrics - this album is such an artful blend of (mostly acoustic) instruments and Harket's extraordinary vocal talent that you forget you can't speak Norwegian as you catch yourself humming along. Each song is very beautiful, and I suspect, slightly biographical and introspective. A very satisfying listen, worthwhile even if you're unfamiliar with (or not a huge fan) of Harket's other work!

This album is even better than Morten's 'Wild Seed' album! It is in Norwegian, so I do not understand the words ( can anyone translate?) but it is very enjoyable to listen to and interesting to hear Morten sing in his native language. He co-wrote all ten songs and the music is beautiful and very melodic. Of course the best thing is Morten's voice- his singing is the reason I bought the album. Morten is an exceptional singer- I will get his future albums whether they are in English or Norwegian! I highly recommend this album to all a-ha fans! Get this album! You'll be glad you did!

If you are reading this page, you probably already know that Morten Harket is possessed of one of the finest voices in pop music. I avoided this disk for a while because of the language barrier, but I needn't have been concerned--his voice is so fantastic that the man could sing anything and it would be worth my time. The fact that the music is also quite good makes this even more of a find. Where Wild Seed was straightforward pop, Vogts Villa has more of an Americana feel to some of the songs, and an almost 60's vibe to some of the guitar. Morten's voice is, of course, wondrous. He uses all 5 octaves of it to good effect. If you like to hear this man sing, then don't worry that you can't speak the language. Buy this disk, you'll find yourself singing along even though you don't know what you are saying. Beautiful music, beautiful voice, wonderful songs.

As a big A-ha fan, i had to have this in my collection not just because I'm a diehard fan, however, Morter Harket never sees to amaze me his vocal acrobatics even if he did not understand what he is saying.
