Another Vogue winner!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Vogue Knitting on the Go: Baby Knits (Hardcover)
With patterns of all levels, this is a book for all knitters! Several cute, "Very Easy, Very Vogue" patterns are included, along with some wonderful baby outfits which require more time and experience. However, I think any knitter could pick up this book and find something to make for a gift or for your own baby. Sizes included are newborn through 24 months. WELL WORTH the money!

Great selection of patterns for children,

This is my first experience knitting something from Vogue and I have found it to be quite rewarding. I am now on my fifth project. The directions are sometimes a bit tricky, and the yarns often require substitution, but if you have some experience knitting, you'll be able to handle it. I love the styles, and have never seen such a selection for babies. It's great for learning new techniques, since each project is small. I have done intarsia, fair isle, Aran, and plain old cotton stripes. Give it a try if you knit for little ones.

I have made the baby girl's chenille princess coat from this book. The directions were excellent. They gave you easy to read instructions, graphs, and sizing to assist the knitter through the project. The other directions are of the same quality; however, I found some of the patterns rather disheartening for the price. Frankly, some of the patterns are very wild and unbecoming on children. The patterns are also very serviceable, regular patterns with not a lot of flair and design. They are simply put-- the classics of children's wear. I suggest buying it from Amazon, as I paid full price for it and it certainly is not worth 12.95. All in all, I think it is an "okay" book to have in one's knitting collection. I myself could not resist that little chenille coat! Were it not for this pattern, I would not have bought this book!

A disappointment,

I found the patterns in this book underwhelming. Perhaps my taste is just different, but when there are fresh and charming designs out by designers like Debbie Bliss and Jil Eaton, the patterns in this book seem ho-hum and dowdy, and some, downright tacky. I can't imagine dressing my child in many of them. I also would have preferred patterns that work up faster - bigger needles, thicker yarns, less fussy designs. I expected better from Vogue.

The title is perhaps a bit misleading.,

This is my first in the "Knitting on the Go" series, and I had expected the designs to be somewhat less complicated. While small enough to fit into your bag and carry along, most of them are too involved to pick up and work while waiting on line. That said, its still a nice book, some awfully cute patterns, particularily for little girls. The chenille princess coat and the silk party dress are especially lovely -- though be prepared to make some yarn substitutions or take out a second mortgage on the house.

Lots of variety,

If you like a variety of styles, intarsia, fair isle, Aran, etc. this is a great book. It gives you lots of new ideas for baby things, and the courage to try new techniques in miniature. My only complaint is that it's hard to find the yarns called for in the patterns. I had to substitute once and the sweater didn't come out too well.

Baby Knits,

As an avid knitter, I am enjoying this book very much. My best friend just had a baby girl and I love all of the patterns. The only thing that disappointed me is that they did not show a yarn sample like "Vogue Knitting" magazine does. (That really helps when selecting your yarn). Otherwise, I love it!

A great book from a great series,

I have bought several of the Vogue Knitting on the Go books, and have liked them all. This is no exception. The pictures are large and clear, and the directions are very straightforward. The designs included are charming, and it is easy to find a project that is appealing. The book is also compact, and easily carried. What more could a knitter ask for?

This book is very similar to the other baby pattern book in the Vogue "small book" series. The paterns are different, or coure, but the lay out and difficulty of patterns are about the same in both books. If you knit for babies a lot, or if there is a specific pattern for which you are looking, it's a good book to have. If you just want a general book on baby knitting, I would recommend buying just one book in the series not both.

Seeing this book makes me wonder what they will come up with for the toddler and teens books. I really liked the inclusion of the toy panda. Would have been nice to have some custom booties patterns.
