5.0 out of 5 stars Best Vogue Knitting book of this series!
I am a 40-year knitter but only a novice crocheter. I adore this book and I find it to be the best written of my 10-12 crochet books. The patterns range from elegantly simple to breathtaking. If you are careful all are in the grasp of the determined novice. For example, I made the spoke shawl which is listed as one of the hardest patterns. It was a challenge but do-able...

3.0 out of 5 stars Cute littel book... but not so inspiring...
A cute little book with 25 patterns - not all are wearable or would be new to crocheters, but some are worth the book.
I'll share some pics, so make up your own mind!

It was a challenge but do-able. And it is a work of art. I've had offers to buy it when I was wearing it!

The thing I like most about this book is that nothing looks amateurish or "beginner". Every stole, shawl and scarf looks great. I do recommend that before beginning a project, you make a trip to the copier to enlarge the instructions. It is a small book and you'll be grateful for the bigger type face as you work your projects.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Easy, Very Vogue, April 4, 2005
This review is from: Vogue Knitting on the Go! Crocheted Scarves (Hardcover)
WOW! People really will try and buy the scarves off your back (neck)! I know, because it happened to me when I was shopping at the mall at Christmas time. Great patterns that are easy to work, even with minimal crocheting experience. You can substitute yarns, using what you have, if the grams/oz and weight (size, ply) of the yarn is the same. So, use your imagination, gals and guys! One of the best crochet books out there, it is worth every penny you pay for it. This little hardcover book is packed with inspiration and wearable art. BUY IT!

I found this book on an Amazon list of "must have crochet books" and after making several of the patterns I agree. These patterns are among my very favorite! However, beginners beware, of the 25 patterns 12 are intermediate, 6 experienced, 4 easy/novice, and only 3 are beginner. There are no step by step pictures or stitch close ups. Just a beautiful shot of the finished product for reference. While the book does have a basics chapter, it is brief so more space can be dedicated to the patterns. By the way, the page on yarn substitution I found particularly useful since many of the pattern yarns are expensive. That said, if you have crocheted for a while and want a unique set of patterns, buy this book! The directions are well written and I found them easy to follow. Every time I work on one of these patterns I get numerous compliments and requests for the book title and author. My copy of the book is starting to fall apart! And one more thing, if you are looking for quick projects this book is also not for you. Many of the patterns require a good amount of time to join pieces together or deal with details. However, the results are well worth the time invested.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great inspiration, May 17, 2004
By A Customer

This book revived my interest in crochet after not having done any for at least 10 years. The patterns are creative and I have already crocheted two of the scarves in the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous, April 12, 2005
This review is from: Vogue Knitting on the Go! Crocheted Scarves (Hardcover)
Generally I prefer knitting to crochet, but when I leafed through this little volume at the store, the designs were so new and exciting I snapped it up. If you're tired of the "fun fur" variety of scarf, give this book a look. The patterns are especially nice because they can be made in summer weight yarns to wear with warm weather outfits. An innovative collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best crochet scarf designs I have come across recently, July 9, 2005

Clearly 5 stars for the design ideas - broad variety in styles, in used yarn materials and level of difficulty. This book contains scarves for every season so you can use it as an inspiration year-round.

Down-side of this book is not related to the content at all in my opinion but the way it is bound. If you really want to use this book itself as your take along reference be warned that the binding might fall apart. It's a shame as the small format would really make it the perfect take along book.
I believe I have seen the same comment in other reviews related to the 'Vogue Knitting on the Go' series - hopefully the publisher will change binding style sometime down the road.

Nevertheless I still highly recommend this book - especially because it focuses on crocheting (I love both crocheting and knitting!).
Hope they will publish a sequence with more modern & wearable fun crochet projects soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars very special, January 30, 2005

Good knitting books are a dime a dozen; not so with crochet, the poor cousin. So far I've made the scarf by Candace Strick using shetland yarns as in the pattern, and I'm delighted with it. The windchimes scarf is also very appealing done in Koigu yarns. I expect to do many more here but using different yarns. I hope Vogue comes out with a sequel.

5.0 out of 5 stars I WANT MORE!!!!, August 31, 2004
This review is from: Vogue Knitting on the Go! Crocheted Scarves (Hardcover)
WOW -- what a great little book! It is a nice little reference, but the star of the show is definitely the fantastic, creative scarf designs. Even though they are not all to my taste there are more than enough to make the purchase worthwhile -- I'm working on the "heart scarf" right now (kind of a houndstooth design with little hearts on the ends). I honestly didn't think I could make such fashionable things with yarn! I highly recommend this book and I am looking forward to future editions.

This is a great book, small in size so easy to take along. It has a fabulous selection of scarves and shawls. I am interested in making every item in the book, unlike some books where you only like one or two patterns in the whole book. This is a *must have* for those that like unusual scarves.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for crocheters!, April 20, 2004
This review is from: Vogue Knitting on the Go! Crocheted Scarves (Hardcover)
I bought this book after hearing another crocheter say that the patterns were beautiful. They're trendy, made with interesting yarns usually thought of as "knitter" yarns, and the pictures show off the work well. I was wishing for more after I finished leafing through the book...great job!
