2.0 out of 5 stars not for me
I sold this book. The patterns are not what I expected at all. There are a couple I will use but the rest are stiff looking and clunky.

This review is from: Vogue Knitting on the Go! Crocheted Shawls (Hardcover)
21 crocheted shawls. mohair triangle, broomstick rectangle by Omdahl, circular spiral shawl by Omdahl, granny square that looks like a poncho to me, medallion shawl joined as you work them, elongated loop stitch shawl, rectangular 4 leaf clover shawl in 2 colors with Rowan 4-ply cotton by Kagan, ribbon shawl, star motif shawl joined at end of work, spiraled flower shawl with flower and leaf motifs and joined at end of work in Saucy sport cotton, rectangular lace shawl in Brilla, rectangular linked rings, hexagonal motif shawl (back cover) joined as you work it, triangle motif shawl (front cover) joined in the working in bamboo, mohair shawl in a loop knot pattern, triangular "box" shawl in Koigu yarn, shell stitch shawl by Doris chan inspired by a round doily, colorful triangular shawl of different sizes of mohair in circles, wrap shawl which can be tied at the ends, rectangular shawl based on Mondrian, aran shoulder length shawl with one large button. All the shawls look interesting and fun to make.
Skill level is mainly intermediate with 3 advanced and 2 very easy but nothing marked for beginners. Yarns used are on the higher end in the main. For crocheters who do shawls this is a must purchase book.Only one caveat: no hairpin lace in this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favorites!, January 1, 2008
This review is from: Vogue Knitting on the Go! Crocheted Shawls (Hardcover)
I got this book as a gift and I'm thrilled with it. I actually like *all* of the patterns inside and I've got six of them waiting in my "to-do" drawer. The patterns are well-written and cover a wide range of skill levels, styles and tastes. Best of all, they're great for crocheters like me who are young and want to make/wear things that are age-appropriate.

5.0 out of 5 stars cool, July 24, 2008
This review is from: Vogue Knitting on the Go! Crocheted Shawls (Hardcover)
"Vogue" is known for, well being in "Vogue". This book has some lovely crocheted shawls you wont's be likely to find somewhere else. The "Vogue On the Go" crochet books can be a little spotty. In previous books, I have been disappointed to find some sections of the pattern do not seem to be there. But I'm happy to report that this is_not_ the case in "Crocheted Shawls". All the patterns are clear and concise. There is no grading of the pattern - beginner or intermediate, so that might be a problem for some folks. But it may allow others to stretch their crochet wings a bit, just to see what can be accomplished.
There is also no charts or symbols. This can also cause a problem for some crocheters. I do like to see charts mostly because they help me visualize how the shawl should be put together in case of multiple motifs.
I do recommend this book for intermediate and curious crocheters. I believe they will find many patterns to choose from. The jacket cover shawl is beautiful, but the looped shawl is on my works in mind list. So give it a chance.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great patterns, March 28, 2008

This book was surprisingly good. I have been disappointed by the on the go books before but I found this one had several patterns I wanted to crochet and several that were inspirational as well. There's a ton of variety in both the styles of shawl and the techniques. A beginner could find a suitable pattern but the most advanced crocheter could also find a pattern with a little challenge. Many kudos!

An "on the go!" book that is not disappointing. Always projects that are inspiring and get you to want to pick up the hook and start another project! Great ideas.

4.0 out of 5 stars Crochet shawls, January 1, 2011
This review is from: Vogue Knitting on the Go! Crocheted Shawls (Hardcover)
Great book with lots of different patterns for shawls. Some are sophisticated, some are fun, most are very different from other shawl patterns I have seen. The directions are well written and easy to understand. Most of the projects have a rating of intermediate or experienced, but tackling them would give a beginner good experience. A good book to add to any colletion of patterns.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cute little book, some useful patterns., April 25, 2010

This book is small and easily carried along with your work. Despite being by Vogue Knitting, it contains only crochet patterns. I was pleased that most of the projects are modern and youthful. These aren't your granny's shawls! Some shawls are for keeping warm, others for evening wear, others are just cute. I haven't completed any projects, yet, but I have started two. These projects range from easy (but not quite beginner) to moderate. I didn't see anything that I would consider difficult. Nice color pics of each projects, using the yarns specified. One broomstick crochet pattern is included, too.
