Tiny and packs a kick,
By Joanna Daneman (Middletown, DE USA) - See all my reviews (TOP 10 REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE) (COMMUNITY FORUM 04) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Vogue Knitting on the Go: Socks Two (Hardcover)
These little Vogue on the Go books are so cute. They are quite small in format, fit the knitting bag or purse. They aren't very long, though (96 pages) but the patterns are colorful and wearable.I prefer this sock book to the other books in the On the Go series because here, size doesn't matter (some of the Vogue sweaters and vests aren't sized up for large people.) Socks, however, can be worked up as-is for adults, or can be easily adapted--you can always lengthen or shorten a sock pattern. The colors are especially appealing and new. I've been toying with the idea of a mitred square sock for some time, and lo, here is Jaya's mitered square socks, saving me the time to develop my own pattern. While this isn't a "absolutely must-have" book, it is a welcome addition of pretty sock patterns, the price is right-- worth it for the mitred sock, in my case.

Socks Two, better than One,
By Suzanne "Suzieknits2" (PA, USA) - See all my reviews

I have both Socks books and prefer Socks Two. They both have the same basic information regarding sock knitting. However I preffered the patterns they gave in Socks Two and found more that I would actually make.

Better than the first sock book,

This book is okay, better than the first sock book. What I don't like about this entire series is that the print is small, and the charts are in color, usually very dark colors, that are difficult to read even in good light under normal circumstances. Also, it would be nice if some of the patterns would tell you the multiple, so that you could use the pattern say for a hat brim or mitten cuff. And, it would be better if they had actual size photos of the yarns, so that the book will be more useful years from now. Finally, any book this new should have had directions for using two circulars instead of double-pointed needles.

Has anybody knitted a pattern from this book?,
By
This review is from: Vogue Knitting on the Go: Socks Two (Hardcover)
I'm wondering if anybody even tested the patterns in this book before printing. How did they knit a 2 colored pattern, knitted in the round, without any specific instructions. Take the Rib and Panel socks (Red Hot chili Peppers), knitted in panels using 2 colors. I admit the pictures are pretty but the instructions are another thing.

Inadequate instructions mar an otherwise nice book,

There are some nice sock patterns in this book, but I agree with the other reviewers who have commented on the poor quality of the instructions. My specific complaint is about the pattern for the Domino Squared socks. It's an unusual pattern done with an interesting technique. However, the instructions are missing any guidance as to what the dimensions of the squares are supposed to be, which makes it very difficult to figure out if you're on track or to troubleshoot. I'm a seasoned enough sock knitter that I have some idea of how things should fit. I don't mind a challenge, but I'd rather have the challenge come from the technical aspects of the knitting than from figuring out the directions. Frankly, I expect more from Vogue Knitting. If you're looking for a good book of sock patterns, this is not it.

Buyer's Regret,

I agree with the reviewer who questioned the patterns in this book. I am an experienced knitter, wrestling with the construction of Red Hot Chili Peppers. If the other patterns in this book are as impossible, I shall be very disappointed with Vogue.

A good addition to your sock pattern library,
By

This little book has a nice variety of patterns and excellent instructions on how to make them. Having said that, to my eye there's no single pattern in the book that I would rate at 5 stars (well, maybe those medieval knee socks). I could justify buying this book based on the socks for children more than on the socks for adults. There are so many excellent sock books around these days. In my opinion, this book is a little below the excellent level due to the designs themselves.

Great book with good ideas,

I got this book for my mom for Christmas. She opened her presents and briefly looked through this and said she liked it. A few days later she called me and was RAVING about this book. She knits socks all the time, so for her to be raving about a sock pattern book says a lot. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys knitting socks.

I love love love this book. I first borrowed it from the library, and realized that I HAD to own it! I've knitted my son several pairs of socks using the patterns from this book. Great instructions and fantastic pictures.
