5.0 out of 5 stars The BEST sock book--a must have for knitters
There are historical sock books, there are folk sock books, but no sock book combines all VK packs into this little easy-to-carry-along book:Hard cover--so it doesn't get ripped up (you'll be taking it every where you go. 1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointment abounds
I found this book to be one of the mostly poorly written sock-knitting books I have ever used. The patterns, on first glance, are quite varied and interesting. I started with the boot socks. While the pattern is technically very easy, it has one serious design flaw. Having some experience knitting socks, I thought it was odd that the pattern called for a 4" heel...

There are Norwegian patterned baby knee highs, hiking socks, knee socks, color work socks--one book that gives you a pattern for almost any kind of sock. Patterns are CORRECT, make sense, are accompanied by a color photo and a diagrams.A plus: all these Knitting to GO! books from VK are a great way to use up odd balls of yarn. It's more than I ever thought to ask for. Buy it! (Whenever you see it--its hard for stores to keep in stock and goes out of print because it's such a hit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Portable, varied selection with clear patterns, June 9, 2000
By
Although I wasn't very keen on the Babies volume of Vogue's Knitting on the Go series, I am very pleased with Socks. Having never made a sock before (albeit a fairly experienced knitter), my first effort -- a "very easy very vogue" selection from this book -- was easy and fast, with quite professional results. The instructions are clear, there are good photos and charts, detailed information about yarn to enable substitutions is provided, and a variety of patterns, sizes, styles and difficulty levels are featured. And the book is portable and sturdy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vogue did it again! A great book full of great sock designs, April 8, 1998
By A Customer
I love the Vogue Knitting Book and this book is equally as easy to understand and well illustrated. I didn't know how to knit socks before I got this book. Now I am a sock knitting maniac! Great for beginners to advanced.

I found this book to be one of the mostly poorly written sock-knitting books I have ever used. The patterns, on first glance, are quite varied and interesting. I started with the boot socks. While the pattern is technically very easy, it has one serious design flaw. Having some experience knitting socks, I thought it was odd that the pattern called for a 4" heel flap, but then it required that the knitter bind off the stitches and sew a seam. Who wants a seam on the bottom of their heel. At that point I frogged and did it my way. I think any experienced knitter can manage to decipher mistakes in the patterns, but serious design flaws like I just described are inexcusable. If I could have given this book 0 stars, I would

5.0 out of 5 stars Clear instructions, color pictures for each project, June 26, 1998
By A Customer
The book is a perfect size to carry along with you. The instructions are clear, with great photographs of each project. There are projects for every skill level. Many of the projects invite personal creativity and a chance to use up that "extra yarn" that's gathering dust. This book is instructive while still being a lot of fun.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fun sock book, May 13, 1998
By A Customer
The book is small enough to put in your knitting bag to travel, but has lots of great pictures and patterns. The sizes include children, but are mainly adult sizes. There are many "how to" helps, and a good variety of sock styles.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good, manageable projects, August 7, 2001

I have made several pairs of socks from this book, ranging from very simple basic socks to more complex, unusual patterns. The photographs and the patterns are clear and easy to follow, as is the case with most of the other Vogue On the Go books. This is a good addition to your knitting library.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT - A MUST HAVE!!!, March 19, 2001
This little book (and I mean little in size - not content) is wonderful. Small enough to fit anywhere. The patterns have a good selection. Fancy socks, baby socks, plain socks and really funky socks. This book is written in simple to understand instructions and really inspires you to make socks. A must have for any sock knitter!
