When I decided to make scarves for my entire family for Christmas, I felt it necessary to have this book. I bought it sight unseen, and I am very glad I did. As a relatively inexperienced knitter, I was pleased to see that there are several different patterns that are all within my skill range and none of them is a plain striped or basketweave or simple rib scarf. In addition to the patterns I can make now, there are patterns at increasing levels of difficulty (with two labeled "expert") so that I will continue to find challenging, and therefore interesting, patterns as my skill develops. I like the physical size of the book because it makes it easy to carry and I like that it is hardback. A paperback book like this would get destroyed with use...when the number of patterns is considered this book turns out to be a bargain. These are, after all, designer patterns and there are 26 patterns in the book. Given the variety of skill levels in the patterns, and the variety of the patterns, I think this book would even appeal to an advanced knitter who was only going to use the "experienced" and "expert" patterns...more significanly, they are not as widely available as the editors of the book claim. The book does not offer any information on substituting yarns and due to the patterns this could make significant differences in the result. Definitely ask someone at your local yarn store or an experienced knitter on an internet list before substituting yarns unless you are already familiar with the yarn specified.

I know I started out knitting simple scarves as a kid, but moved on to bigger knitting challenges. But the projects in this book made me excited to make scarves again. I love the Knitting on the Go series--they're really cute books, and are the perfect size to take with you. (I take it on my commute.) And the scarves especially make great gifts for basically everyone.

As a beginning knitter, I wanted to make things that were fairly simple but would make nice gifts... what would work better than scarves! This book has a nice variety of patterns from different sources, so the designs are all fresh, some dressy, some sporty, some delicate and some chunky... not just variations on a theme. Each pattern is rated either 'very easy', 'intermediate', 'experienced', or 'expert'. There are several patterns in each range, and even the 'very easy' are attractive and don't look like cop-outs!
There is some helpful how-to information at the beginning of the book, but an absolute beginner would need to learn at least the bare basics before starting any of the projects in this book.
The book is small and light, so I can stick it in my purse to go shopping for yarn, or in my knitting tote bag so I have the pattern handy.
The only drawback to this book is the binding.... the pages fall out too easily and I'm going to end up having a book held together by tape before long.
I look forward to getting more of these great little books!

My favorite of the vogue knitting on the go series. I am currently making (or have made 6) from this book alone. Unlike other books, this contains a LOT of variation between patterns (both in style and technique of construction), including a hood with ends that wrap to form a scarf, two different tubes to form loose collars, and a beautiful dragonflyl shawl. I highly recommend this book.

This is the greatest source of scarf patterns I have found. There is an amazing selection to choose from-easy to follow patterns for beginners on up. Lots of beginner/intermediate patterns and lots of fun patterns that you can pick up and put down at ease. I highly recommend this book.

VOGUE SCARVES is a complementary volume to the larger VOGUE basic knitting book. I bought the scarves book because I need inspiration. As I struggle to master basic knitting techniques, I like to think ahead to what might be possible if I persevere. This little book includes some beautiful examples of what might be possible if my fingers ever become un-numb from the work I've been doing.

Some of the Vogue scarf designs depend on fancy stitches, some on appliques, some on more than one color, some on a mix of the above. Many of the scarves include basic stitches I am already beginning to master. A good example of a relatively simple design is the `Chevron' scarf, which involves the garter stitch, knitting on a biased pattern by increasing stitches at each row, and using more than one color.

Seems as though knitting like advanced math involves calculations built up from addition and subtraction (`advanced' knitting techniques reduce to knitting and purling--apparently the reverse of each other). The most important ingredient in becoming a proficient advanced knitter is to master the basics. This book is for those capable of persevering who are ready to tackle more knitting and purling.

Some of the ideas are really nice in this and the other books in the series (though I hate charts except for colorwork), but even with the Amazon Discount all of them are overpriced. Yes, it's nice that it's a hardback, but let's face it--these are very small books. $9 would have been about right for what you get.

Also, for the most part, these books all use very pricey yarn, which helps in making them look unique, but if you look closely, you might already have some designs similar to these at home already.

Just because it says "Vogue" doesn't make it worth the extra money, at least not to me.

Add Scarves to your Knitting on the Go collection. It's true to form: small, handy, a wonderful range of appealing projects with full directions and schematics. I love these books, and I love the projects in this book!

My christmas gift list is all wrapped up and ready to go thanks to this delightful book of patterns! Lots of variety for all the tastes and ages on my list as well as the interest of this knitter. Good directions and illustrations of techniques used for the less confident knitter. Good descriptions of yarn types for easy substitution for yarns used in the pictured scarves.

I was amazed at all the variety packed into this little book! Scarves make fabulous gifts, and you'll find something here for everyone on your list. The designs are unique, whether it's the simplest scarf, or the most complicated shawl.

While it's true that some of the patterns call for high-end yarns, don't let that stop you from buying this book; scarves are definitely good for experimenting with different yarns. Even size and gauge aren't critical, so feel free to substitute yarns, as I have done with much success. That said, scarves don't take that much yarn, and it's worth a little extra money to make one of the knock-out scarves calling for hand-dyed yarns.

The patterns range from simple stitches to intricate colorwork, and everything in between. As a result, you'll find quick-knit gift items, as well as good things to try when you're finally ready to tackle intarsia or fair isle. It's also not just scarves - there's a gorgeous intarsia shawl, and a lace wrap, too. Finishing includes fringes, pom-poms, and even rose quartz beads!

With the great variety and possibilities for experimentation, this book is a great value for the money.
