Book Description

Vogue Knitting November 3, 2009
A shawl can keep you warm in the winter, top off an elegant evening dress, or chase away the chill on a summer evening. It’s the perfect addition to any wardrobe—and the perfect project for any knitter who’s tired of working on scarf after scarf and wants to move on to something new. Vogue Knitting Shawls & Wraps presents 25 of the magazine’s most gorgeous wraps, all created by today’s top knitwear designers.  The patterns include a chic beaded shawl or one with delicate open lacework; a cozy cabled cape, a stylish fringed wrap, and many other exquisite designs.

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

The editors of Vogue Knitting magazinehave gone back into the archives and found 40 shawl designs that will challenge and excite knitters. As many knitters know, the patterns found in the magazine are not, for the most part, easy. The good news here is that shawls, with their simple and finite construction, are the kind of project even beginners can finish. Still, the patterns themselves, especially those featuring lace designs, are intricate and involved. (A key at the top of each page measures difficulty, but at times these seem optimistic.) Unlike some of the knitting books that come from the Vogue stable, this one is oversize with full-color photographs that allow browsers to get a sense of what the finished product will look like. The directions, written on pure white pages, are also well spaced and thus easy to read. Charts, sometimes used instead of written directions, are also clear. Back matter includes techniques and abbreviations. --Ilene Cooper

5.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous, October 22, 2009

This review is from: Vogue Knitting Shawls & Wraps (Hardcover)
Written for the intermediate to experienced knitter, but not too ambitious for the adventurous beginner; this book begins with wispy ethereal lace shawls and progresses to warm bulky weight wraps. The shawls are beautifully photographed. This will be a book you will return to again and again for inspiration.
There are plenty of charts; most in color and the instructions include a substitute yarn.
Yarn weight is given for each project which also makes it easier to substitute yarns. I am wondering if I can get any of these beauties knit before the holidays if I start now?

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book!, October 31, 2009
This review is from: Vogue Knitting Shawls & Wraps (Hardcover)
This has something for everyone - from lacy beaded shawls for a fancy night out, to warm snuggly wraps to keep you warm on a cold winter night. I would make the majority of the patterns in this book, there are only 2 or 3 that don't appeal to me. If you like shawls and/or wraps, this is a good book to add to your collection.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing and Uninspiring, April 26, 2010

This review is from: Vogue Knitting Shawls & Wraps (Hardcover)
This is the first vogue knitting collection I have bought, and it will probably be the last. I was unpleasantly surprised at page after page of basic, bulky, and boring patterns. There were only a few that looked like something I'd like to wear (much less knit). Not worth a whole book. Your money would be better spent on a book with stitch patterns. Put them together yourself in a rectangle and - voila! - you will have a wrap. You will have all the tools you need, and the possiblities will be limited only by your imagination.
