So as a knitter somewhere in between beginner and intermediate, I half-expected to breeze through the first few days of this calendar, assuming it would be a build-up of skills (ie, the 1st as a knit stitch, 2nd a purl, etc), but it starts out with a fairly complicated color-knit plan called Airfield. The next few days I've glanced at include a chevron panel and a chevron rib, but it seems the color-knit plans make up a good 1/3 of the calendar. This is fine, even though I don't plan on using any of the color-knit plans (let's be real here, who has time to knit a new pattern swatch EVERY day). All in all it's a beautifully designed calendar and is perfect for any quasi-experienced knitter looking to keep interest without the fuss of online pattern-scavenging. I just thought it was important to note that this is NOT a 'learn to knit' kind of calendar. Also, if you're planning on using the patterns verbatim, you need to buy the same yarns they used, which they cite in the introduction (though they don't tell you which yarn goes with which pattern). These include 'Filatura Di Crosa Zarina, Lana Grossa Cool Wool 2000, and DK Weight Aurora 8 from Karabella Yarns, Worsted Weight.'

-1 star for plain text instructions (it'd be a little more helpful to see illustrations for the more complicated patterns, though the text isn't particularly confusing if you know standard knitting abbreviations) and being a little smaller than normal daily rip-off calendars.

I thought that the book would guide me into it, building day to day...but the patterns start out really deep. I only can read standard stitches, so I need a companion book to figure out day 2 where I think they have you dropping stitches and changing hands mid line? It would be better if they either used all the blank space to show you what they mean, or on the cover say its for more advanced knitters. Also the pages are falling out really easily as I flip back to the glossary, so I ended up tearing it out so as not to loose calendar days.

When I bought this calendar, I thought it would be a good reference source for pattern stitches. I was thinking it would be a slide to the back type calendar, that would allow the pages to stay intake if desired. This is not the case. They are flimsy tear away pages which now makes it very challenging to store and keep as references.

As for the content, I am pleased with the variety of stitch patterns that are included. I have used quite a few of them to practice on with my charity blanket square knitting.

While the contents, the day by day pages inside the one-a-day calendar, are fine, the holder is horrendous. It is flimsy cardboard and it does not stand up well. It lays almost flat which makes it nearly worthless as a display and it falls over with the simplest jostling.

I am not sure why they migrated away from the previous year holder. It worked wonderfully.

You will probably need to use packaging tape and more cardboard to make this display work well.
