Dear Music Appreciators,

VOICE OF AGES is a joyful 50th anniversary celebration and a gift from The Chieftains to their fans and lovers of traditional Irish music around the world. The album is not purely traditional Irish music, but every song has some special quality to link it to the spirit of The Chieftains and what they've been about for the last fifty years. As a collaborative album this is a chance to expose world music fans to some of the finest musical artists working outside of the top forty today, and to expose fans of those artists to The Chieftains.

The album includes seventeen songs across fifteen tracks, eleven of which are considered traditional, and those that are not are wrapped in traditional sounding arrangements.

Dylan fans will be interested (happily or sadly - you know how those Dylanphiles can be) to hear independent lit rockers The Decemberists perform "When the Ship Comes In," backed by The Chieftains. It has been nearly fifty years since Dylan and Joan Baez performed that song at The March on Washington.

Fans of recent Grammy-winning act The Civil Wars will relish the Americana duo's original song contribution to this album.

Of course the Bon Iver track will draw deserved attention. He's a popular and a busy boy these days...

19th century American music purists will be dismayed to see Stephen Foster's name left out of the credits on "Hard Times Come Again No More."

Take notice of all the names on the album cover. They are all worth knowing.

I was worried that since the retirement of Martin Fay and the death of Derek Bell back in 2002 that any future albums would be a disappointment. Was I ever wrong.

Although no one can ever replace Martin and Derek, the guest musicians have filled out the ranks nicely and managed to keep the feel and style that have made the Chieftains what they are for so long. And Triona Marshall is an excellent harpist, adding that air of elegance that Derek used to provide.

A true Chieftains collaboration album worth a listen. And a reminder that this band is still vital and worth listening to even after 50 years.

I downloaded this album on release date for the amazing price of $3.99. I would not hesitate to download this at full price however. To me this is the perfect melding of the talents of THE greatest Irish band with many of today's most interesting "alt folk" artists. If you are a Chieftains fan, you will be thrilled with this release. If you are a fan of any of the guests on this record, you should be very pleased also - welcome to the world of the Chieftains - use this opportunity to explore this group further!!

I strongly recommend this record. Beautifully recorded and produced - and the band is STILL in top form after 50 years. Quite possibly the Chieftain's finest "duets" effort; this will be the best folk and/or international release of the year.

Great collabrative effort. One of my favorite world music CD's. I hope The Chieftains continue making music and showing the world how unigue Irish music is.

I am natural biased here because of all the Chieftains albums I have but Voice of Ages is truly a pleasant surprise. It is a beautiful escape into music as the performing artists and the Chieftains blend so well together. I felt compelled to listen to the album again when the last song had played. It was that wonderful and original.

What an awesome album.

Great collaboration with some lovely artists. This whole things makes me want to dance with happiness and groove.

The Frost is All Over might be my favorite track, but of course I'm a huge Punch Brothers fan.

The Chieftains' music NEVER grows old. This album set is especially good because of the variety of entertainers joining with the group. Do not hesitate to purchase this set. It is worth every cent and more!
