Product Description

Would you like to be alerted when ... Cars are coming up the driveway • Children go inside your tool shed • Intruders approach the front or backyard • Someone enters your garage • Visitors are walking to the front door • Your parked boat or motor home has been boarded • Kids or pets are trampling your flowers ...then you need the Voice Alert System-6. System-6 allows a maximum of six user recorded messages. Each message is specific to one zone. For instance, zone one could be for a driveway alarm -"Car coming up the driveway" while zone two could be for a sensor monitoring the back yard- "Alert! Child by the pool!" Perhaps a third sensor guards a side entrance against intruders. However, when this PIR detects movement, the base unit plays "Intruder on patio" and triggers a floodlight using one of four relays included on the base unit. System-6 can monitor all three zones simultaneously and still have three additional zones available when needed. Users can alter their messages and place the wireless sensors wherever they wish. Voice Alert System-6 sets up in minutes and can be completely customized to fit their individual needs. The wireless PIRs feature: all weather protection, adjustable mounting and sensitivity, and can send a signal 300 feet through walls and up to 1000 feet in open space.

We had our house broken into in the middle of the night, while we were home. That very scary experience led to me scour the earth for the best home security measures I could find. Although we had a home alarm, home alarms only go off after someone is already in your house, which helps by limiting the time the robbers have in your house before the police arrive (or the gun comes out) but it is obviously is too late to stave off an unwanted entry. So, I became interested in perimeter defense - some sort of system that alerts you when someone enters your property, before they get to your doors or windows. Once they're in you have very limited time to react and don't know how many there are, where they're at, whether they're armed, etc. I ran into two issues with this strategy: cost and ease of installation. If cost is no object, then the very best perimeter defense system is a camera system with in-image motion detection (check out Ioimage, which can distinguish between animals and humans, but costs around $1500+ per camera, assuming you already have a surveillance system with good cameras). Other options include beam systems that go off if something breaks a beam or IR based systems like Voice Alert 6. Beam systems tend to require wiring, which makes installation expensive, so...

I went with Voice Alert 6 because it is 1) wireless, which makes installation easy; 2) it will tell you exactly which sensor went off, which tells you where the threat is; and 3) the sensors work indoors or out. First off, the detectors reliably go off when tripped and the wireless unit is responsive even through the walls of your house (we have brick and no problems at 200+ feet between the sensors and the base unit, although I believe the range between the sensor and base can be up to 1000 feet).

Easy to set up and use! You'll want at least one more sensor to monitor other areas (the system expands to include 6). The range is excellent, and the sensors can be installed on multiple floors or even outdoors (under an eave or overhang). Place them high and out of reach.. Battery life is good when put in battery saving mode. Cons: the low battery alarm feature doesn't always work, so you should test the sensors often to be sure you're still protected (walk or move in front of them). No battery backup feature on the base unit for power failure or tampering.

As the title indicates, this is a mixed review for the Voice Alert System.

I've been using these for a little over two years now, in an industrial security setting. In that period we've had to replace the master control box three times and buy 4 new monitors. The system is in an outdoor setting with no cover for the monitors. The plastic shell just doesn't hold up well to the environment. Sealing them with duct tape has helped, but condensation can still collect inside and cause problems, until they dry out.

Replacement of the main control box isn't so much an issue with the product as it's being abused by the users.

Installation and programming of the system is very easy. Reception is excellent. Battery life for the 9v has run 3-4 months, which is also excellent.

This is an infrared system. Although you can limit the acquisition field of the viewer to make a smaller target area, thus reducing some of the "false" hits, the system will still react to bright light shifts in dawn and dusk lighting, or go crazy on a bright, partially cloudy day.

This is a small price to pay for the level of alert you gain by having this system working for you. Lesser systems we have tried had higher failure rates and ate batteries every month. Upgrades from Voice Alert 6 are significantly more expensive, with no guarantee of being any more economical.

My three star rating relates to an ambivalence towards these products which don't really wear well, but are reasonably effective.

I think this is the best of the low end price point monitors. With some care and maintenence you can get decent longevity with yours. ( knowing a handiman who can put your monitors in a container would help a lot. )

Finally, a company that has shown attention to detail and considers quality to be more important than the dollar. The engineering on this voice alert system is excellent considering it was built by American engineers. The obvious features are great - six recorded voice alerts, alert reset, etc.. The - not so obvious - features, like the ability to trigger other devices, the ability to monitor an infinite number of sensors, ability to delay between triggers, and the audio out port, show that Cross Point Industries is serious about what they build. The unit has exceeded our expectations on a daily basis while monitoring our business. And the price of the unit is definitely reasonable. The quality is high and the unit works excellent on a consistent basis. As you can tell, we are very happy with this unit.

I have this unit mounted above my garage to monitor my driveway. I have two cars parked in my driveway and anytime someone comes up it, the alarm sounds. I even know when people are coming to my front door (they have to come up the driveway to get to the walkway). I'm at the door before the pizza guy or ups can get to my front door. The only false I get is some cat that likes to wonder around at night!!!! Otherwise I love this item. I have had this unit for over 4 years and had to replace the sensor once because the sun finally rotted it out.
